MacOS Bundle Fails in .NET 10

I wanted to share an insight. After upgrading to Avalonia 12 and .NET 10, my MacOS bundle started failing.

These are the instructions I gave to users.

MacOS Installation

Download and extract the ZIP file into /Applications

To remove code-signing security warnings, run this command in the terminal

/Applications % xattr -d com.apple.quarantine Converter432Hz.app

Click on the folder to run it.

It worked up until now. Why did it start failing?

Thanks for Grok Build to analyze the situation, it found the culprit (I gave it a few hard debugging tests and it passed them!). The work-around works for no-signature. .NET 10 started adding dummy-signature to single-file assemblies.

You can remove the signature on MacOS with

codesign --remove-signature

but then you need access to a MacOS machine. I ended building GitHub Actions build script to compile for the various platforms. This gives access to a MacOS environment for free. Using free GitHub Account; then cloning from my private self-hosted repo.

You can remove signature with tools like rcodesign, cross platform.
But realistically, unsigned macOS app (or ad-hoc signed like .NET 10) is a source of headache on its own.
