One thing to try would be upgrading to the latest 1.7.x, then 1.8, then 1.9, then finally 1.10. The release cadence of YOURLS is so slow, relatively speaking, that we don't really expect people to be skipping multiple releases in a single upgrade. It's not really feasible to pore over 8 years of changes (1.7.2 was released in May 2017) looking for what broke your setup. Take it one step at a time and you can narrow down the problem scope considerably. Please note that the range of supported PHP versions changes over time. You might have to upgrade PHP to get a newer release working. Bluehost says you can change the PHP version in use from your cPanel. My attempt to upgrade from 1.7.2 to 1.10.1 today went very badly.
Luckily, I had backed up all YOURLS files and was able to restore 1.7.2.
But I'd appreciate some wise guidance before I try again to upgrade my very old YOURLS installation.
After uploading the 1.10.1 files to my Bluehost directory, YOURLS complained about an "invalid user name or password."
I tried chasing down the config file(s) that might have needed updating, but it's been so long since I did anything behind-the-scenes with YOURLS that I got lost in the weeds, ran out of time for troubleshooting, and rolled back to 1.7.2.
I'm hoping somebody here knows something I don't and can offer wise advice. Maybe something fundamental about YOURLS has changed between these version; something that a simple upgrade won't address?
What are your thoughts?
