Context

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open any URL
2. Enter PassThrough mode (not ephemeral)
3. Switch to another tab
4. Wait about 5 seconds
5. Switch back to original tab

Expected behavior:

PassThrough mode indicator should still be visible

Actual behavior:

PassThrough mode indicator disappears, but user is still in PassThrough mode

Additional notes:

Insert mode has the same problem when settings.showModeStatus = true
