I'm getting this error:

WordPress not found in /var/www/html - copying now...

This is my docker compose file:

That is not an error, that is how it works the first time that it is started with an empty /var/www/html.

Upon looking at wp-config.php, none of the variables were copied:

The variables are not embedded into the file anymore -- they get loaded at runtime instead so that changes are applied correctly without any hacky file editing.

@tianon any way to see what the output looks like, now that its runtime only?
(for debugging: I can see the docker env vars but WP doesn't seem to be picking up on them).

I don't know if WP-CLI has something that would show you the effective configuration, but you should be able to write a wordpress plugin or something like that which does.

Try this method :

chmod 777 -R /opt/wordpress/sites
