Can't get the simulator to display an image.

So, I am trying this on two computers, on my MacBook, and on my desktop running PopOs. I can get the python script manual_control.py to run, but I cannot get Xvfb to display anything. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, but I think I am missing something silly, xvfb says it's running but no image pops up.
