A focused week of release prep — the MCPRoute API graduated to v1beta1, the first OAuth token exchange implementation landed for review, v0.6 release notes are in flight, and there's a fresh proposal to move the project under the Agentic AI Foundation. Thanks to everyone who shipped, reviewed, and weighed in.

🛣️ Road to v1.0 GA

v0.6 is imminent. The MCPRoute API graduated to v1beta1 this week (#2090), which was the last open item gating the release. Release notes are drafting in #2097 — v0.6 release notes (draft) by @missBerg — reviews welcome.

The shape of the path to GA, from this week's maintainer call:

• v0.6 — promoting MCP API to beta. On deck.
• v0.7 — gated on quota policy work and upstream Envoy / Envoy Gateway releases landing.
• v1.0 — end of June 2026. Tracking in #2083.

From the maintainer call: a proposal to move the project under the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). No renaming, no API breaks, no change to Envoy community relationships — both Envoy and AAIF sit under the Linux Foundation umbrella. The strategic case is closer alignment with MCP spec evolution and adjacent agentic-AI projects. A Q&A will be posted to the Envoy AI Gateway Slack channel once the proposal has had a few days to gather initial feedback. Tracking issue: aaif/project-proposals#18.

✨ What's new

MCP

• MCPRoute API promoted to v1beta1 — #2090 by @nacx. The MCP API graduates from alpha. This was the final blocker for v0.6 — migration notes are in the release notes draft.

Developer experience & stability

• Standalone Envoy startup error handling — #1994 by @nacx. The CLI now surfaces a clear failure when standalone Envoy can't start, instead of hanging silently.
• Avoid field ownership for updates — #2087 by @siddharth1036. Resolves a class of reconciliation issues caused by spurious field ownership claims.

💡 New design proposals & feature requests

• Reasoning and image support for /v1/messages → /v1/chat/completions translation — #2098 by @anurags25, with a draft implementation in #2099. Adds reasoning and image content support to the Anthropic-to-OpenAI translation path.
• Anthropic /messages → AWS Bedrock translator — #2102 by @Killusions. Native Anthropic Messages API support for Bedrock backends.
