Hi everyone,

I am a junior high school student, so the school has not assigned me an educational mailbox, but I can provide my student card and recent transcript photos to prove my student status. How can I apply?

You don't need a .edu email to get GitHub Education benefits. Plenty of students (especially outside the US) don't have one, and GitHub accounts for that.

Go to education.github.com and click "Join Global Campus" (or "Get student benefits"). During the application you can upload proof of enrollment instead of verifying through a school email. Your student card and transcript should work fine for this.

A few tips to make the approval go smoothly:

• Set your GitHub profile to your real name (matching your student ID)
• Add a profile photo (doesn't need to be fancy, just something real)
• Make sure your GitHub account email is verified, even if it's a personal one like Gmail
• When uploading your proof, make sure the document clearly shows your name, the school name, and a current date or enrollment period
• Take a clear photo, no glare, no cropped edges

The review usually takes a few days. If it gets rejected the first time, you can reapply with better documentation. The most common rejection reason is blurry or cropped photos where the school name or date isn't clearly visible.

If your school happens to have any email domain at all (doesn't need to be .edu), try adding that to your GitHub account too, it can speed things up.

After clicking start an application in the education benefits option in the personal settings, I need to fill in the school email address provided by our school for students and teachers.
