Hi everyone,

My GitHub Student Developer Pack is verified and active until February 2026, but my account remains on “GitHub Copilot Free”.

Previously, I had a paid GitHub Copilot Pro subscription. After the subscription expired, my account did not revert to the Copilot Student entitlement included with the Student Developer Pack.

I already:

• verified my Education status
• checked Copilot settings
• tried the redeem link
• signed out/in again

Student verification is still active, but Copilot Student benefits are missing.

Is there a way to refresh or restore the Copilot Student entitlement?

Hi, according to your rejection status, Firstly make sure you have uploaded a valid institute identification document (College ID card preferably) in the specified format with good clarity eg. PNG, JPEG.
You have to make sure that your account name is exactly how it shows on your submitted ID card. It should match word to word.
Select your institute correctly with the provided dropdown.
Lastly, while filling up the form, make sure you are inside or close-by to your academic institution, to avoid location related issues.

• Primary ID: College-issued ID card captured directly via GitHub’s application camera verification system.
• Academic Proof: Supporting documents explaining delayed semester commencement due to ongoing end-semester examinations and official schedules.
• Institutional Verification: Payment receipts, admission letters, and registration documents featuring the official college name, logo, and authorized seals.
• Billing & Address: Valid billing information, including PayPal and relevant account details where applicable.

Verification Steps Taken

• Location Accuracy: Ensured precise location matching via GPS and multiple IP geolocation services during the application process.

Given the extensive verification already completed, it is increasingly difficult to understand the basis for these repeated rejections. It genuinely feels like obtaining approval has become significantly more challenging than before.

💡 Seeking Community Advice: If anyone has successfully navigated the Student Developer Pack verification under similar circumstances—especially by taking effective steps beyond what I’ve already tried—I would greatly appreciate your guidance and insights.

Issue could be from Github's side. They have updated the Student Benefits which is causing a pause on newer applications. It could continue to be an issue until July 2026.
Have you made sure your Github account name is exactly how it is on your ID proof?
Sometimes it is Last name - Middle name - First name on the college ID, make sure your account is named exactly like that on your Github as well if not already

That honestly sounds like an entitlement sync issue on GitHub’s side rather than something wrong with your Student Pack verification.

Since your Student Developer Pack is still active until 2026, your Copilot Student access should normally reactivate automatically after the paid Pro subscription ends. Sometimes the account gets “stuck” on the previous billing state and doesn’t refresh correctly.

You already tried most of the standard fixes, which is good.

At this point, I’d recommend:

• Opening a GitHub Support ticket specifically mentioning a “Copilot Student entitlement refresh”

• Including screenshots of:

  • Active Student Pack verification
  • Current Copilot Free plan
  • Previous Copilot Pro billing/subscription history

• Mentioning that the issue started only after the paid subscription expired

I’ve seen similar cases where support had to manually refresh the entitlement on the backend.

Also double-check that:

• Your student verification email is still attached to the same GitHub account
• You don’t have another GitHub account that accidentally redeemed the benefit earlier

Hopefully support can manually resync it quickly, because from your description it definitely sounds like the Student Pack itself is still valid.
