Take a clear, high-resolution photo of your school ID using your phone or webcam. Make sure your school name, your name, and a current date/year (2026) are completely visible and not blurry.
If possible, use an official document that has an English translation, or include a official school document alongside your ID that clearly maps your school's local name to its English name.
Go to your GitHub profile settings and make sure the Name on your profile matches the name on your school ID exactly.

GitHub does not generally require applicants to be connected to their school's Wi-Fi network, and community members cannot determine the exact rejection reason from a discussion post. Since you've already provided a school ID and verified academic email, I would double-check whether the submitted documents clearly show:
If the rejection message specifically mentions that the school name was not visible, it may help to provide an additional official document (such as an enrollment certificate, student portal page, or school-issued letter) where the institution name is prominently displayed. Also, if your school ID contains both a local-language name and an English name, make sure the English version is clearly visible and readable in the uploaded image. Could you share the exact wording of the rejection notice (with personal information removed)? Sometimes the wording contains clues about whether the issue is document quality, institution recognition, or proof of current enrollment. |

Here's the message that returned to me:
The english school name clearly shows up in my school id card, and I used my academic email address that my school provides, but they keep rejecting my application. |

Thanks for sharing the exact rejection message. Based on that wording, it sounds like the verification system is specifically failing to recognize the school name in the submitted evidence, even though you have an academic email and your ID contains the English name. A few things I would try: Upload a fresh photo (not a scan or cropped image) where the school name, your name, and the entire document are clearly visible. Since the rejection message explicitly references the school name, I suspect the issue is not your academic email but rather that the automated verification process is unable to confidently detect or match the institution name from the uploaded image. If the school name is already clearly visible in English and multiple submissions continue to fail, it may indicate a limitation of the automated review process rather than a problem with your documentation. In that case, hopefully a GitHub Education staff member can advise whether a manual review option is available. |

Verification Help & Guidance
Hi everyone,
Hello,
I am a high school student applying for education benefits. My application was denied, but I believe there is an error in the verification process.
I have already provided my official school ID (which includes my school name in English) and verified my status via my academic email address. Despite this, I received a notification stating that the school name was not visible and requesting documentation.
If there is any specific reason why these documents are not being accepted, please let me know so I can resolve it. Thank you.
