Hi everyone,

Hi GitHub Education Team,

I am trying to apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack, but I am blocked by the application form validation.

My legal last name consists of only a single character. When I enter my name in the application form, it triggers a "last name is too short" error and prevents me from submitting the form.

Hey! That’s super frustrating. Hardcoded form validations constantly trip up edge cases like this.

Since GitHub staff generally don't process manual verifications directly through public community discussions (mostly due to privacy rules and how they handle ID documents), you'll want to tackle this in two ways to get it sorted:

1. The Quick Form Workaround
   Try adding a period after your last name (e.g., X.). Most automated form validations will count the punctuation as a second character and let you submit. When the system or a human reviewer eventually looks at your uploaded student ID, they almost always understand why the period is there and will pass it through.

2. The Official Support Route
   If the period workaround gets flagged later as an "ID mismatch," you'll need to open a direct support ticket rather than waiting on this thread. Head over to the GitHub Support Portal and select the GitHub Education category. Explain the single-character name issue there and attach your ID. That queue goes directly to the staff members who have the admin rights to manually bypass the automated checks and approve your pack.
