Project to be claimed

Your PyPI username

Reasons for the request

py-bugger helps people practice debugging, by intentionally introducing specific kinds of bugs into their project.

When I tried to upload the project to PyPI, it was rejected because it was too similar to existing names. I'm not sure if it's conflicting with bugger or pybugger.

I don't want to take over either of these projects, or any other existing project. I'd just like to use py-bugger, if that can be granted. In the meantime, I've uploaded the project to python-bugger. If this request is rejected I will just keep that package name, but I would prefer to have the package name match the command name if possible.

Maintenance or replacement?

None

Source code repositories URLs

Contact and additional research

I have not contacted anyone, because I am not trying to take over any existing projects.

I'm making this request based on the following comment on pypi/warehouse:

Make it more clear that a project name rejected for being "too similar" is available to request via PEP 541, and should pretty much always be approved

Hi @ehmatthes,

I am afraid that since there is already a project existing called pybugger, it is clashing with your desired name. Unfortunately, because of that, we can't approve your request. I would suggest that since you already have a pretty solid PyPI project name of python-bugger to continue with that, thanks.

I happened to start checking out @ehmatthes's project just now and noticed this request.

I believe that the project currently using the pybugger name on PyPI may be abandoned, per the "abandoned projects" criteria of PEP 541:

A project is considered abandoned when ALL of the following are met:

@ehmatthes, have you tried to reach https://pypi.org/user/fareskalaboud/ ? The maintainer's email address is on the pybugger PyPI page.

  • no releases within the past twelve months; and

Last release was 2017.

  • no activity from the owner on the project’s home page (or no home page listed).

The home page is https://github.com/fareskalaboud/pybugger3 - no activity since 2018.

The criteria for transfer are in PEP 541 under "Removal of an abandoned project.... An abandoned project can be transferred to a new owner for purposes of reusing the name when ALL of the following are met".

Hope this helps!
