Just in case you did not follow the discussion I would like to draw your attention to the linux-usb-gadgets umbrella project: https://github.com/linux-usb-gadgets It has been proposed in this mailing list thread https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg207354.html and since then acts as common pool for user space projects related to various USB gadgets. If you are interested, I believe that the uMTP-Responder would be a nice fit.
