From #231 and discussion at TPAC, are we agreed on the current text of the specifications (syntax and api at least) that in 9.1:

To avoid forward-compatibility issues, a term SHOULD NOT start with an @ character as future versions of JSON-LD may introduce additional keywords.

The discussion around @direction led to some unexpected (to the participants) results about when the processor would complain and when it would.
