Trackma not supporting Tray Icon in GNOME

I'm on arch, gnome 48. Trackma says that tray icon is not supported in the environment. I'm not sure what library/protocol it's trying to use, but other apps are able to add tray icons to my environment so I'm not sure what's going on. If this could be looked into further it would be splendid.

Basically GNOME devs don't like tray icons and want to get rid of them. AFAIK the only way to get them working is to use an extension like https://github.com/ubuntu/gnome-shell-extension-appindicator but it doesn't seem support trackma-gtk's implementation.

I tried this library under GNOME wayland + gnome-shell-extension-appindicator and it seems to work: https://github.com/moses-palmer/pystray.

What method are they using to do this? As @molkoback mentioned it had to be disabled in Trackma because they were getting removed from GNOME entirely. I don't use GNOME and I don't follow its development - has this changed in the recent years?

As far as I know, all the apps using tray icons in my system are built in electron. I think electron has its own ways of displaying tray icons in each operating system. Still, I've seen some other apps managing too.

By the way forgot to say it but as @molkoback said they in fact were removed from gnome long ago, but I'm using an extension to show them. It's not native but a lot of people use it, as most apps do not comply with gnome's background apps system, and a lot of apps actually require a tray icon to be used efficiently too.
