The problem with a UI like this is that it can be very efficient in a large monitor. When you put it in a laptop screen it gets so bad so quick. The idea with docks is that they should appear when needed and be easily hidable. Making the focus be the editor. If everything is a tab in panel split it is either always taking up space in the screen or in a tab hidden behind and you need to switch between all the time. |

I tried replit.com to test it's IDE and blender
I'm not really a fan of AI features replit provide but the the way the agent and user could interact with the code base without intrupting each other and the fantastic UI they built
zed cant be a replica of replit at any way : both has diff levels and diff views - but it could use some productivity tips from that UI
the fact that replit made everything exept file explorer (file and project wide search within it) are taps in the IDE canvas is fancy, making extensions, mcp and integration list as tools to the middle side (you could make it to the top or button with some small changes) I realy filt I could switch to any thing easly, it was like if I was working with blender everything is a canvas tile
I really admire the performance zed focus on and want it's UI to be the best
Also that may help organizing extentions, tools, and give extentions ability to have their tabs or enhance it, costome tools across tabs, sandboxed capabilites, AI advanced editors and more
