Note / 说明

Add RSS feed support for all 32 NFL team news pages. Each team has its own official website (e.g., seahawks.com, chicagobears.com, 49ers.com) but they all share the same NFL infrastructure. The route scrapes team news listing pages and extracts article metadata from JSON-LD structured data (NewsArticle) on individual article pages. Includes radar rules for all 32 team domains.

Rob Rang’s 2026 Draft Preview: 10 Seahawk-y Prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft

Rob Rang is an NFL Draft analyst for FOX Sports and is returning for his fifth year of contributing to Seahawks.com's draft coverage. He began covering the NFL draft in 2000, with work published at FOX, Sports Illustrated, CBSSports.com, USA Today, Yahoo, NFL.com and NFLDraftScout.com, among others. He also works as a scout with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. Rang's opinions and evaluations are his own and do not reflect those of the Seahawks. Follow him on Twitter @RobRang.

In hindsight it is easy to understand why the Seahawks grew into the best team in the NFL last season as the core values shared by John Schneider and Mike Macdonald almost demand it.

The Seahawks are looking for players who are tough, smart, physical and reliable. Last April, the Seahawks' GM and president of football operations described Seattle's draft class as, "smart, tough, reliable, swaggy, athletic, speed," and that group included multiple rookies who played a big role in the team's Super Bowl-winning season, led by guard Grey Zabel and safety Nick Emmanwori.

On the surface, this seems far too simple. Every team is looking for players who fit those descriptions, after all.

In reality, while many teams may claim they want players who check these boxes, a lot of NFL clubs forget these principles once the draft begins.

When I evaluate the prospects in this draft, I'm, of course, looking through an entirely different lens than the Seahawks. However, there are certain players who stand out along the way as definitely having a "Seahawk-y" vibe to them.

Listed below - in alphabetical order – are ten players who fit these qualifications.

Keith Abney II, CB, Arizona State

There are four defensive backs on this list and none of them are scrappier than ASU's Abney, as confrontational and confident a corner as I've seen at the college level since Devon Witherspoon was lining up for Illinois. Abney is very quick and aggressive – especially when the ball is in the air – but one of the things I most appreciate about him is his anticipation. For a younger player, he shows very impressive awareness of down and distance and the routes receivers are likely to attempt. He didn't allow a single touchdown reception in 2025 and practiced against likely first round wideout Jordyn Tyson every day in practice.

📈 Senior Bowl Defensive Stock Up Player of the Week 📈

Arizona State's Keith Abney II rose to the occasion with a game-sealing interception and locked down the back end when his team needed it most.#TheDraftStartsInMobile pic.twitter.com/kzlRSwChHu
— Panini Senior Bowl (@seniorbowl) November 17, 2025

Josh Cameron, WR, Baylor

Bringing back Rashid Shaheed, Jake Bobo and Cody White (not to mention extending Jaxon Smith-Njigba) means the Seahawks probably can just punt on the receiver position in this draft but Cameron certainly plays with the grit and competitiveness that fits the program. The 6-foot-2, 220 pounder scored a combined 19 touchdowns over the past two seasons, bullying defensive backs with his running back-like frame and physicality. His disproportionately long arms (33 1/8") show up on tape as a receiver in jump-ball situations and I love his vision and ability to bounce off would-be tacklers after the catch.

In terms of pure height/weight/speed measurables, #Baylor WR Josh Cameron is one of the most intriguing upside WRs in the class. Needs work in some key areas, but @seniorbowl setting is a great proving ground for him! #SicEm https://t.co/ozhjeiZPSN pic.twitter.com/t8tNrBJyCK
— Fran Duffy (@FDuffyNFL) December 2, 2025

Jonah Coleman, RB, Washington

I almost want to chuckle when I hear people criticize the 2026 draft's running backs because as a life-long Washington state resident I know how often quality football in our region gets overlooked – until it proves it's supremacy. Coleman is a brute at 5-8 and 220 pounds, and he runs with the vision, burst and determination that screams longtime NFL contributor. Playmaker? Coleman scored 37 touchdowns in four seasons at the college level. Effective on third down? Coleman caught 87 passes and is among the most stout and alert pass protectors of his positional group. Ball security? Coleman fumbled once in 639 career touches. And, of by the way, he was a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy this past season – also known as the Academic Heisman – graduating from UW with a 3.93 GPA in Education.

I like Washington RB Jonah Coleman quite a bit. Short, dense build but great feet and lateral quickness. Balance for days. Reminds me of Javonte Williams. pic.twitter.com/YgWaWXkKv1
— Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) February 23, 2026

Gabe Jacas, Edge, Illinois

It isn't often that one can use the expression "Led the Big Ten in sacks" and "underrated" to describe the same player but that is the case with Jacas, a team captain who leaves Illinois with 27 career sacks and seven forced fumbles, each of which rank among the best in program history. Jacas' production screams first round pick but because he has not been able to workout for scouts, some in the media have apparently forgotten about him. I doubt the Seahawks have. I love the 6-foot-4, 260-pounders' physicality, awareness and dependability. In an edge rusher class full of high-ceiling, low-floor gambles, Jacas (pronounced Ack-us) is the no-frills safety net.

One of my favorite NFL comps in this year‘s draft is Gabe Jacas (Illinois) and Trey Hendrickson. Like Hendrickson (pk 39, RD3), Jacas won’t be a RD1 pk because he lacks the athletic profile. But both are excellent with their hands, have strong wrestling backgrounds and play with…
— Todd McShay (@McShay13) March 13, 2026

Chris Johnson, CB, San Diego State

Physicality and explosiveness are often traits associated with the Seahawks but I think that discipline and dependability are also very much part of the fabric of this franchise. Johnson was dominant at San Diego State, showcasing the route awareness and technique to project as an immediate contributor at the NFL level. Similar to Jonah Coleman at running back, I am convinced that if Johnson played his collegiate ball in a different part of the country, he'd be considered a shoo-in for the first round. Frankly, I think he probably is with NFL teams – just not the media. I think Johnson is right there with perceived Top 10 lock Mansoor Delane as the "cleanest" cornerback of this draft.

San Diego State CB Chris Johnson This Season:

🔒 Zero TDs Allowed
🔒 4 INTs | 5 PBUs
🔒 16.1 Passer Rating Allowed
🔒 92.8 Coverage Grade@AztecFB https://t.co/tANdF06udq pic.twitter.com/Y1uQ4YSfUR
— PFF College (@PFF_College) December 12, 2025

Christen Miller, DT, Georgia

There are elements of Miller's game that remind me so much of a young Jarran Reed at Alabama. I see untapped potential as a pass rusher, as Miller is athletic. But more importantly, I see size, power and a junk-yard dog mentality that suggests he's going to be a key contributor along the defensive line for a long, long time, and the muscled-up 6-foot-4, 321-pound Miller is a legitimate tough guy. If available at No. 32, I think he is a legitimate candidate for the Seahawks' first pick of the 2026 draft, despite the fact that defensive tackle is one of the team's most talented and deep positions.

Georgia DT Christen Miller: 90.9 Run Defense Grade Since 2024

🐶 1st Among ALL Defensive Lineman@GeorgiaFootball pic.twitter.com/9S0SGzqeIG
— PFF College (@PFF_College) March 12, 2026

D'Angelo Ponds, CB, Indiana

As mentioned previously, players are listed alphabetically but I just love the juxtaposition of the aforementioned 6-foot-4, 321-pound Miller and Ponds, easily the smallest player on this list at just 5-foot-9 and 182 pounds. If Ponds were just a few inches taller, he'd be a top 10 pick in this draft. As his 43.5" vertical jump at the Combine suggests, Ponds might just be the most explosive athlete of this year's cornerback class and I love instincts and physicality. He closes downhill like a thunderbolt.

Mason Reiger, Edge, Wisconsin

The Seahawks have long prioritized all-star game standouts and Reiger was one of this year's stars at the East-West Shrine Bowl, earning MVP after recording three sacks and a forced fumble. Reiger is long and lean for the position at 6-foot-5 and 243 pounds but he punches above his weight class and is a more nuanced rusher than his relatively meager career production might suggest. He showed steady growth at Louisville but really blossomed this past season at Wisconsin. think Reiger's (pronounced RYE-ger) best football might still be ahead of him.

R Mason Thomas, Edge, Oklahoma

At just 6-foot-2 and 241 pounds with arms measuring less than 32 inches, Thomas certainly doesn't look like a traditional Macdonald edge rusher… but looks can be deceiving. Thomas is as explosive off the edge as any rusher in this class and he converts speed to power like a Pro Bowler, bull-rushing OTs who outweigh him by nearly a hundred pounds on his way to the QB. Former Seahawks scout and Senior Bowl executive Jim Nagy – who now works for the Sooners – raves about Thomas' intensity and stiff-arm.

Realize it's usually an NFL thing but R Mason Thomas' 26-yard stiff-arm warrants some "Angry Runs" love, @KyleBrandt. 😡😤 https://t.co/J58aAYFlDs
— Jim Nagy (@JimNagy_Sooners) November 2, 2025

Wesley Williams, Edge, Duke

With stubby arms (31-7/8 inches), average speed (4.89) and meager sack production in 2025 (two sacks), Williams seems like a poor choice to wrap up this article but he's a team captain and among the most physical players in the draft. I see a player who likely won't get drafted until Day Three but ultimately outperforms his draft slot and earns a significant second multi-year NFL contract. He plays with the anticipation, intensity and violence that will keep him in the NFL for a long time.

An Hour In Head Coach Mike Macdonald’s Life At The NFL Annual Meetings

PHOENIX—On Monday afternoon at the famous Arizona Biltmore hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald made his way to the McArthur Ballroom for his car wash of media requests and sit-down interviews that included EPSN, the Up & Adams show, and Movin' The Chains on SiriusXM.

Macdonald donned a navy-blue crewneck-style shirt, grey pants, a pair of P448 sneakers and a silver watch on his left wrist.

He entered a large, dimly lit, conference room for a sit-down interview, which would be a feature for ESPN. Macdonald began walking towards the set of the interview, but stopped and turned to Seahawks chief communications officer, Dave Pearson, to ask what exactly the interview would be about.

Pearson responded, "It's a feature."

"On who?" Macdonald asked.

"You." Pearson responded, as the room full of camera operators, producers and public relations staff laughed at the interaction.

The interaction, while simple and seemingly mindless, demonstrated just how "normal" Macdonald has tried to treat everything, since winning Super Bowl LX on February 8, not thinking twice about the fact that the interview could be about himself rather than someone else. And while Macdonald has tried to keep everything as routine as possible, everyone around him has not.

Just two years ago, Macdonald was at his first NFL Annual Meetings as head coach of the Seahawks and taking questions about who would be the Seahawks quarterback that season.

Last season, the talk was all about receiver DK Metcalf and quarterback Geno Smith.

This season, it's all the the latest Super Bowl champion.

Macdonald said the sheer volume of media requests increased this year.

"It's just more," he said.

As he sat down in an oversized leather armchair, in a space with moody lighting, for his ESPN interview with Lindsey Thiry, it took Macdonald a few minutes to get settled in the chair, questioning whether to rest one arm on the armrest, clasp both hands in his lap, or put both arms on each armrest. He decided his left arm on the armrest was the most comfortable and natural.

"How's your son?" Thiry asked as Macdonald was getting settled.

"He doesn't love me yet, but he likes me," Macdonald joked back.

At 1:05 p.m. Macdonald's first interview began, and Macdonald was asked about his childhood, high school, and college days.

Macdonald shared that his sisters are his superheroes, that he and his dad would break down film of his 7th grade football games and that while in high school, on the drive to school, he would watch America's Game on his phone rather than listen to music.

At 1:18 Thiry was given the nod to wrap the interview, and by 1:23 Macdonald was preparing to leave the ballroom.

To his surprise when he walked out of the ballroom, New York Giants head coach and a mentor to Macdonald, John Harbaugh, was waiting outside the room for his interview with ESPN. Macdonald and Harbaugh chatted for a few quick minutes before Harbaugh was whisked away.

Macdonald's next stop was an interview with longtime New York Daily News reporter Gary Myers, who is currently writing a book about both John and Jim Harbaugh and wanted to talk with Macdonald who has a good relationship with the brothers and family in general.

His interview with Myers was less than 10 minutes.

After that Macdonald was escorted to another end of the conference space for an interview with podcaster and former reporter for The Ringer, Kevin Clark. The video interview ended at 1:43 p.m.

Macdonald's next stop wasn't until 2 p.m. so he checked his phone, drank some water and chatted with people passing through the building.

At 1:58 p.m. Macdonald and Pearson walked outside to the set of Up & Adams with Kay Adams, who was wrapping up an interview as Macdonald arrived. The producer of the show greeted Macdonald and Pearson and asked, "How long do we have?"

Pearson let the producer know that Macdonald had another interview at 2:15 p.m.

Adams talked with Macdonald about rewatching the Super Bowl, which he's only done once, Jaxon Smith-Njigba's extension, as well as Macdonald's sneaky good talent being thumb wars of all things.

After Macdonald's interview with Adams finished, he and Pearson began walking back toward the Biltmore hotel entrance. Macdonald thought he was finished for the day, but Pearson let Macdonald know that he had one more interview for the day, and the interview ended up being one of Macdonald's favorites.

"Oh the radio?" Macdonald asked as they were walking towards the set.

At 2:15 p.m. Macdonald was putting on his headset and getting settled across from Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller of Movin' The Chains on Sirius XM.

Kirwan, Miller and Macdonald chatted about the Smith-Njigba extension, when Witherspoon's extension would get done and the sped-up timeline of the offseason before they wrapped up at 2:28 p.m.

After his hour-and-a-half whirlwind of media obligations, Macdonald headed back to the hotel to return to his room.

The Super Bowl-winning head coach feels like the same person he was before he won the big game, even if the interview requests and attention he's getting now reflect otherwise.

"You know what's funny, it's really cool," Macdonald said. "But I don't really think about it until somebody brings it up to me. I feel like I'm the same person, I think that puts everything in perspective. Why are we actually doing what we do? It's really just to defend our way of life, that we can be Seahawks and put great emphasis on people and enjoy how we go about our business and the people we're with every day. If we would have lost the game, I would have hopefully felt the same and felt the same about our team, have the same amount of pride in what we were able to accomplish last year."

Five Things We Learned From Seahawks GM John Schneider At The NFL Annual Meeting

PHOENIX—John Schneider was running late.

The Seahawks general manager and president of football operations had an informal media session scheduled with local media on Monday afternoon at the NFL Annual Meeting, but Schneider had a hard time arriving at that meeting due to all the well-wishers stopping him to congratulate him on his team's Super Bowl title.

So goes the life of a head coach or executive of a team coming off of a Super Bowl victory. All 32 teams are present each year at the NFL annual meeting, but only one can be the team that won a title the previous month.

"Yeah, but I do it to, 'Great job, that was impressive,'" Schneider said of his well-wishers. "We're just constantly doing this all throughout the year, every day, then all of sudden it's over. Then you turn around like a week later and you're starting on next year, and it's a totally different team, a different season. But yeah, it's cool."

As Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said earlier in the day, the Seahawks aren’t heading into the 2026 season feeling like they’re the “defending champ," but that doesn't mean there aren't real effects from playing into early February, or that Schneider and the rest of the organization can't take lessons from the last time the team was coming off of a title run.

More on that topic and other things we learned from Schneider's time with the media on Monday.

1. Schneider and company will bring lessons learned more than a decade ago with them into this season.

Every season is unique and, to Macdonald's point, no team can really just pick up where it left off the previous season, no matter how many players are back. But while the 2026 team and season will be their own unique things, that doesn't mean the 2025 season, which extended into early February, won't affect this year's team. As Macdonald noted earlier in the day, the Seahawks will adjust their offseason workout program to give veteran players more break, and from Schneider's perspective, there are plenty of lessons to be learned from what the Seahawks 2014 and 2015 teams experienced coming off of Super Bowl seasons.

"There's a lot of things within football operations that we need to improve on and be cognizant of," Schneider said. "What happened the last time? Where are we taking this franchise? What are we going to look like in the training room, strength and conditioning, the fields? There's a lot of other stuff that goes into it—it's not just the roster and the coaches—there's a lot of other stuff that supports all of those people. So we've got to be cognizant of a lot of things there, lessons learned there, and lessons learned from a team building standpoint for sure."

2. There are also lessons to be learned from past drafts after successful seasons.

As Schneider has detailed in the past, one issue the Seahawks found with draft classes last decade was that there were players coming in who idolized star players like Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas and Marshawn Lynch, and could at times be so reverential towards those players that they weren't able to compete with them. That led, Schneider said, to a bit of revamping to the evaluation process to make sure the Seahawks were bringing in the right type of competitors, and now that new picks will be coming in to play on a team with start players who just won a Super Bowl, it will be more important than ever to get that part of the evaluation right.

"Yeah, we'll be way more cognizant of it," Schneider said. "How do they feel about (Devon Witherspoon), how do they feel about Leonard (Williams), (Byron) Murphy? There's got to be a level of confidence, self-efficacy that we have to dig deeper into… Not just being fans of these guys, but like, 'I want to take their jobs.' The competition just rises to the top.

3. Offensive line continuity will be "huge" for the Seahawks in 2026.

At this time last year, Schneider was being asked frequently about his team's offensive line, which had lost one starting guard and had question marks about both of the other interior line spots. A month later, the Seahawks picked guard Grey Zabel in the first round, and with center Jalen Sundell and right guard Anthony Bradford eventually grabbing hold of their starting positions, the Seahawks had a consistent lineup and much improved line play last season. The Seahawks also got extensions done for starting tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas, which means that the Seahawks have all five of their starting linemen back in 2026, as well as some young players they're excited to see develop, including 2025 draft picks Bryce Cabeldue and Mason Richman.

"It's huge," Schneider said. "You look at continuity, it's so hard to have that continuity these days. We had it Green Bay with (center Mike Flanagan) and those guys that were together for like eight years… To have that continuity is rare."

4. Schneider is excited about the speed element of Rashid Shaheed and Tory Horton.

When the Seahawks traded for receiver and return specialist Rashid Shaheed midway through last season, they thought it was something of a luxury addition to a group that included Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp and rookie Tory Horton, who had five touchdowns in his first eight games while also standing out as a punt returner. But just before the trade happened, Horton started experiencing shin pain, and that injury ended up keeping him out for the rest of the season, making Shaheed an incredibly timely and important pickup. With Shaheed re-signing and with Horton expected back by training camp, the Seahawks are looking forward to seeing what kind of factor their speed can be for an offense when paired together.

"Tory, when we made that (Shaheed) trade, Tory was taking off, then he was like, 'My shins are not feeling great,'" Schneider said. "So he just went through this process, getting more and more tests. I don' t know what it would have looked like if Tory and Rashid would have been out there. That's a lot of speed. So we're really excited about Tory's process."

5. There was never a doubt in Schneider mind that Jake Bobo would be back.

When the Seahawks and receiver Jake Bobo were unable to work out a contract before the deadline to tender restricted free agents, the Seahawks went ahead and placed the right of refusal tender on Bobo, a three-year special teams standout and as Schneider put it on his radio show on Seattle Sports 710AM last week, "a culture guy."

That tender meant Bobo could talk with other teams and potentially sign an offer sheet, but that the Seahawks would then get a chance to match it. The Jaguars ended up signing Bobo to an offer sheet earlier this month on a Friday, then the Seahawks officially re-signed Bobo after matching that deal the following week. And while it took the Seahawks a few days to finalize that decision, the result of the ongoing negotiations with Jaxon Smith-Njigba as well as the personnel department's draft preparations, there was no hesitation on Seattle's part once Bobo got another offer.

"Jake knew we wanted him back the whole time," Schneider said. "We were just going through a lot that weekend with Jax's negotiation, we were in draft meetings, and it was like, let's get to Monday or Tuesday and it was like, 'We're matching that.'"

Mike Macdonald: ‘I Think People Are Kind Of Sleeping On The [Running Backs] We Have’

PHOENIX—Yes, the Seahawks lost running back Kenneth Walker III to free agency this offseason and while head coach Mike Macdonald and company will miss the running back, Seattle is focused on the players they have in the building.

"You're like super happy for him," Macdonald said. "I mean, you see the work that he's put in and it's not been like an even road for him the whole time. Some of the things he's dealt with health wise and some other things, but the guy played great football for us, helped us win a Super Bowl. And him and I got to spend some time like after, get a long drive down to the press conference after the game. We had some great conversations, but just happy for him. He was able to take care of his family. He's a great dude, a great football player. Really excited for him."

And while the loss of Walker is not a small loss, Macdonald is focused on the players they already have in the building.

"I'll tell you this, I think people are kind of sleeping on the guys we have a little bit," he said. "I mean, George Holani played great for us down the stretch. What was the number on Charb's (Zach Charbonnet) touchdowns? I mean Zach's a great player. He's not going to miss the whole year. And then Kenny Mac (McIntosh) [will] be able to come back and then the guys we added. So, I'm excited about how that, room goes from here, and then, obviously, just like the rest of the team, any opportunity to take our team to the next level, we're going to look at it. So that's how John (Schneider) rolls."

Right now, the Seahawks have Charbonnet, Holani, Kenny McIntosh, Jarcadia Wright, Cam Akers and free agent signee Emmanuel Wilson on the roster

Charbonnet, who tore his ACL late in the 2025, will be back at some point in 2026.

"Zach's a great player, he's not going to miss the whole year," Macdonald said.

And the Seahawks will be expecting to get McIntosh back from an ACL injury as well. When McIntosh got his opportunities, he showed flashes of potential. In 2024, he appeared in 17 games and rushed for 172 yards on 31 carries.

Holani who had a late-season surge, because of Charbonnet's injury, appeared in appeared in 11 games during the 2025 season. He rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on 22 regular-season carries before landing on injured reserve.

Wilson, a free-agent signee, has played in 41 games over the course of three seasons and has rushed for 1,083 yards on 242 carries, averaging 4.5 yards a carry. He also has seven rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown.

Each player brings a different set of skills.

Seahawks general manager/president of football operations John Schneider said, "It's the uniqueness of the group. Like any position, would you like to add to it? Yeah. But the uniqueness of the group, George Holani, he's just, [an] all-around [player]. Kenny, special teams aspect of his game, the kick returns, catching the ball back out the backfield, Emanuel Wilson's a heavy runner, zone runner. They all have a cool, unique skill set, and then Zach's like the ultimate pro. So as soon as he can come back, he's coming back."

Mike Macdonald: 2026 Seahawks Are A New Team, ‘We’re Not Defending Anything’

PHOENIX—It took more than a month, but Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald finally rewatched his team's Super Bowl LX victory, doing so for the first time last week.

Macdonald has only watched the cut up tape of it, like he would after any other game, though—his wife, Stephanie, still wants to sit down together and watch the TV copy all the way through—and for Macdonald that first viewing felt a lot like his Monday film study after a regular-season game.

"I watched it on tape," Macdonald said. "Steph wants to watch it all the way through on the TV copy, so I think we might do that at some point… I haven't watched (the Super Bowl commercials) yet. It was cool, but it was the same feeling as watching any other tape. You get pissed off about certain things, but there was a lot of good stuff on there.

"It was like normal. It didn't feel like I was watching the Super Bowl. It felt like I was in-season, upset because we didn't take a guy to the flat or something."

The fact that Macdonald was downplaying his experience of watching the team he coached reach the pinnacle of its sport was fitting given his messaging when he talked with the media on Monday from the NFL Annual Meeting.

Macdonald and his team are incredibly proud of what they accomplished during the 2025 season, going 14-3 in the regular season before beating the 49ers, Rams and Patriots in the postseason to win the second Super Bowl title in franchise history. But they also know that the 2026 version of the Seahawks is starting fresh, and that focusing on last year's accomplishments won't help them win games in the upcoming season.

"We're a new team, and we have to rebecome the team that we're destined to be," Macdonald said. "There's a lot of new pieces, and I think that's where the focus is. OK, how can we get those ground elements back to where we want them? What's a better way in terms of our process? How can we do Phase One better? How can we do Phase Two—even though we're going to alter the schedule a little bit—how can we do those things the best we can and take those things to the next level?"

As Macdonald noted, the offseason workout program will look a little bit different because of the team's Super Bowl run in order to let players get enough of a break in, particularly veteran players who were playing a lot in the postseason. When the offseason program begins in April, younger players who didn't play a lot last season, as well as those coming off of injuries, will report as usual, but other players will participate in meetings remotely before joining for in-person workouts later in the spring.

"It was a shorter offseason, so I just felt like the guys needed a standard amount of time away from the building, so we're kind of tiering it, what we had planned out for them to come back during the offseason," Macdonald said. "Guys that didn't really play through that whole playoff push, young guys we're trying to develop or guys that are injured that we're trying to get extra hands on, we'll ask them to come back a little bit earlier, then the other guys will be remote for the first two weeks. Then starting with phase two we're hoping to get everyone back in the building and rolling, then we go from there."

The Seahawks will report for offseason workouts with a lot of the same players who helped them win the Super Bowl. Only five players left in free agency—running back Kenneth Walker III, safety Coby Bryant, cornerback Riq Woolen, outside linebacker Boye Mafe and receiver Dareke Young—and only two of them, Walker and Bryant, started Super Bowl LX. So there will be a lot of continuity, but despite general manager and president of football operations John Schneider using the phrase "let's run it back" at the NFL scouting combine, Macdonald doesn't quite view it in those terms.

"We're trying to be really careful with our language, we're not really saying we're running anything back, we're not defending anything," Macdonald said. "That's just not really our attitude. The goal is to try to retain as many great players as we can, and we love our roster and we love our guys, and we're trying to keep that unit together and have that continuity. That's what we've been trying to do."

Asked about going into the season as the "defending champions," Macdonald replied, "That's not a thing. We're not defending anything. I've already talked to some of the guys about it, and they're great. The guys are awesome, and they know what we need to do. We're work through those things, it's not like you have the definitive meeting—no, it's, this is our mentality on how we want to approach it. We'll work through it. It's not just me saying it, our coaches have an influence, and we'll figure out ways for guys to talk—we'll do walk and talks or whatever—we'll figure out ways for the guys to really make it their journey again so we can all be on the same page moving forward."

Macdonald accomplished a ton in his second season as the Seahawks, overseeing the NFL's best defense and leading the franchise to a title while becoming the third-youngest Super Bowl-winning head coach in league history. But he doesn't really think about that accomplishment, not unless you ask him about it, instead focusing on the day-to-day process of that job that will be key if he and his team are going to have another successful season.

"You know what's funny, it's really cool, but I don't really think about it until somebody brings it up to me," he said. "I feel like I'm the same person, I think that puts everything in perspective, it's just, why are we actually doing what we do? It's really just to defend our way of life, that we can be Seahawks and put great emphasis on people and enjoy how we go about our business and the people we're with every day. If we would have lost the game, I would have hopefully felt the same and felt the same about our team, have the same amount of pride in what we were able to accomplish last year."

Seahawks Stick To Plan, Retaining As Many Players As Possible, Will Look To Young Players To Step Up

PHOENIX—Winning a Super Bowl undoubtedly means there will be roster turnover because of the high demand for the players who were part of that Super Bowl-winning roster. Throughout the offseason, the Seahawks have stuck to their plan though of keeping as many players as they can on the roster. So far, the Seahawks have had just five players depart to sign elsewhere, Coby Bryant signed with the Bears, Boye Mafe signed with the Bengals, Kenneth Walker III signed with the Chiefs, Riq Woolen signed with the Eagles and Dareke Young signed with the Raiders. Of those players named, just two started the Super Bowl, both Bryant and Walker.

The amount of retention for the Seahawks coming off a Super Bowl win is unusual when looking at the roster retention of the previous three Super Bowl winners. After the 2024 Super Bowl win, the Eagle had 21 players that were released, traded, signed elsewhere or retired. In 2023, the Chiefs lost 12 players. And in 2022, the Rams lost 19 players in free agency.

"The goal is to try to retain as many great players as we can," head coach Mike Macdonald said at the NFL's annual league meetings. "We love our roster, and we love our guys, and we're trying to keep that unit together, to have that continuity. So that's what we've been trying to do, and that's part of the long-term plans as well, and how we budget. I'm not really in those conversations on budgeting for multiple years in and out, but I know that's how we've done business, and I feel like we've executed pretty well for the most part. There's going to be like, all the guys that left, to a man, you want those guys back. But just that's the way that the NFL goes. You have success and guys are able to get paid and stuff, and I'm really happy for them."

And for each player that has left during free agency, with the exceptions of Mafe and Young, the Seahawks have "refilled" that position by signing a player.

The Seahawks added cornerback Noah Igbinoghene, safety Rodney Thomas II and running back Emanuel Wilson. Safety D'Anthony Bell also signed with Seattle, after he spent most of the 2025 season between the Seahawks practice squad and 53-man roster.

"Panthers kind of stole him from us there at the end," Macdonald joked. "So that was a bummer, but D'Anotony's been an asset for us. You can probably rattle off some big plays that he's made for us, the punt block. He's a guy that gives us safety flexibility, but also some big nickel flex as a backup to Nick (Emmanwori). So that's going to be something we want to make sure that if Nick can't find his helmet for a series or two, we can still go in and operate our defense."

Igbinoghene, who said he had an opportunity to sign with Seattle last year in free agency, has started 17 games and has 119 tackles, 1.0 sack, two fumble recoveries, 17 passes defensed and an interception.

"He's a guy that we've been interested in for a while," Macdonald said. "And finally gave him some grief for maybe being a year late for when he should have been here. But a guy [who can play] inside outside flex and there's great opportunity right now in our secondary to go carve yourself out a great role."

Along with those additions, the Seahawks are expected to have most of their veteran players back, including defensive linemen like Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed and DeMarcus Lawrence.

"Nothing's changed there," Macdonald said.

And in regard to Lawrence, he said, "To my knowledge he's coming back. He always has the right to change his mind, but as of right now, he's coming back."

The Seahawks will also have return specialist and receiver Rashid Shaheed back after he signed a deal with the Seahawks early in free agency. Even though most of Shaheed's production came as a returner last season, Macdonald hopes that will be different in 2026.

"We're going to have such a better idea of what he can do," Macdonald said. "Him understanding more, than spending all [that] time on the detail of the routes and the timing and getting on the same page and the chemistry. So, I think we were trying to get him the ball as much as possible last year. I could think off the top of my head like three or four plays where we're inches away from explosive plays and some of those more intermediate cuts, we were just like a hair off on timing or location. So that's kind of the detail we're going to be attacking this offseason. Try to make sure we're rolling during the season."

Along with the veteran players, the Seahawks still have younger players they are excited to watch take on larger roles. Last season, the Seahawks saw two rookies in Grey Zabel and Nick Emmanwori play a significant number of snaps. And then there were rookies like Tory Horton, Elijah Arroyo and Rylie Mills who all got some, but limited opportunities.

Macdonald said, "I'm thinking of Jamie Sheriff and Connor O'Toole. All of our young linemen, Elijah Arroyo. All those guys, I think, would take their game to another level. Nehemiah Pritchett is going to have a great opportunity to compete. So, I mean, we have a lot of young guys that are excited about where they can take their game. Now they need to take their game to another level. They know that, but they're going to have an opportunity to do so."

Mills, who made his first-career sack in the Super Bowl played just six games last season, including the playoffs after rehabbing an ACL injury.

"I don't think everybody else saw, the things that we saw from him on a day-to-day basis," Macdonald said. "I think that's why the guys were so excited for him to make the play finally in the Super Bowl. Just find a sweet spot on his role and where he's going to go, but the sky's a limit. We're going to get plenty of reps and plenty of ops for him to develop his game and really, I think it's also like developing chemistry with the rest of the guys on the line. Who he plays well with, what positions, how much, how many pass rush snaps he earns, all those things."

Macdonald also said he believes quarterback Jalen Milroe could have a bigger role in the offense.

"I believe he could have last year," he said. "It's the way things shook out. It was best for the team for him not to be active on game day and have a larger role, but plenty of ability to do so throughout the year, I was really excited about his development. I know he's going to work his tail off."

There are also a few players the Seahawks are hoping to get back from injury, including AJ Finley who both was out all of last season with significant knee injury.

"AJ was a guy that was having a great training camp. It's such a bummer that play happening. It almost like happened like in slow motion, like a nightmare. He was competing right there with Ty (Okada) for the third safety spot. He's a guy since he walked in the door, he's one of those steadfast guys that just nails it every day, he's got a great attitude, and then he's made a lot of plays on the ball in practice. So we're excited about AJ."

Injury Updates From Seahawks Coach Mike Macdonald At The NFL Annual Meeting

PHOENIX—Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald met with the media on Monday at the NFL Annual Meeting, covering a number of topics ranging from his team's offseason moves to his team's Super Bowl win to the upcoming offseason workout program, which will be tweaked a bit this year given the shortened break created by a Super Bowl run.

Macdonald also gave updates on a couple of players whose 2025 seasons were cut short due to injury, receiver Tory Horton and running back Zach Charbonnet.

Horton, a fifth-round pick out of Colorado State, got off to a great start to his rookie season, catching 13 passes for 161 yards and five touchdowns through his first eight games while also excelling as a punt returner, averaging 14.9 yards per return, including a 95-yard touchdown. But his rookie campaign was cut short due to a shin injury that kept him from returning. Macdonald said Horton likely won't be at full strength to start out the offseason program this spring, but should be ready to go for training camp.

"It's just one of those things where you have to let it calm down, then be smart on how you come back," Macdonald said. "We'll have a plan for him over the course of the spring—he's probably not going to be 100 percent starting Day 1. I'm not really sure of the timetable, but we expect him back for training camp is a fair statement to make."

Charbonnet, who tore his ACL in Seattle's divisional round win over the 49ers, did not have surgery until February, making a return for the start of the season seem unlikely. But when talking about the team's plans at running back after losing Kenneth Walker III in free agency, Macdonald mentioned Charbonnet as part of the equation, meaning the Seahawks are expecting him back at some point during the season.

"Zach's a great player, he's not going to miss the whole year," Macdonald said.

No dirige a gritos; enseña, convence y empodera.

Cashius Howell - EDGE, Texas A&M

ESPN: Field Yates

Keldric Faulk - EDGE, Auburn

CBS Sports: Josh Edwards

Caleb Banks - DL, Florida

"San Francisco ha sido ligado a defensivos del interior largo en el pasado. Aunque Robert Saleh ya no es más el coordinador defensivo quien incitaba a esas adquisiciones de personal, uno pensaría que es un perfil que aún le interesa a Kyyle Shanahan. Los 49ers usaron dos selecciones en tacles defensivos el año pasado, pero ahora obtienen a otro prospecto realmente talentoso para emparejar con Osa Odighizuwa."

CBS Sports: Ryan Wilson

Caleb Lomu - OT, Utah

"Podremos mirar al pasado en unos años y Lomu sería el mejor tacle de esta clase".

FOX Sports: Ben Arthur

Caleb Lomu - OT, Utah

"San Francisco debería mirar a sucesores potenciales como Lomu, un tacle izquierdo titular por dos años en Utah".

USA Today: Jack McKessy

Caleb Lomu - OT, Utah

"Una de las mejores selecciones en la segunda mitad de este mock draft hasta ahora. Lomu es un prospecto que aún necesita constante desarrollo, lo cual lo hace un match perfecto para un equipo de los 49ers con un veterano talentoso en Trent Williams de quien Lomu puede aprender y reemplazar un día".

USA Today: Ayrton Ostly

Caleb Lomu - OT, Utah

"Lomu jugó del lado izquierdo en Utah y tiene un techo algo gracias a su atletismo y velocidad en los pies. Necesita más desarrollo y puede ser titular como guardia para comenzar su carrera".

2026 Mock Draft Monday 5.0: A Clear Favorite Emerges in Analysts’ Projections

With the NFL Draft now less than a month away, projections are starting to solidify for the San Francisco 49ers at No. 27 overall.

In this week's roundup, one trend stands out above the rest, as multiple analysts link San Francisco to offensive line help. One prospect, in particular, continues to gain traction, while projections also address depth along the defensive front.

Take a look at the latest projections from NFL Draft analysts:

NFL.com: Charles Davis

Blake Miller - OT, Clemson

"Miller set the school record for career snaps at Clemson, and he was excellent against Penn State in the Tigers' bowl game last season."

NFL.com: Mike Band

Caleb Lomu - OT, Utah

"Offensive line stands out as one of San Francisco's clearest needs after the free agency frenzy... Lomu would give Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch a high-upside tackle to develop behind the All-Pro left tackle while also reinforcing a front that looks thinner than it has in years."

NFL.com: Bucky Brooks

Cashius Howell - EDGE, Texas A&M

"Bryce Huff's abrupt retirement and San Francisco's need for depth on the edges make Howell a potential fit here. The Texas A&M standout lacks ideal arm length, but his nonstop motor and natural pass-rushing skills would energize a unit that faces quality quarterbacks in the divisional race."

ESPN: Matt Miller

Caleb Lomu - OT, Utah

"Lomu started at left tackle during the past two seasons, allowing only 3.0 sacks (all in 2024). He plays with the agility and balance needed for the 49ers offensive scheme."

ESPN: Field Yates

Keldric Faulk - EDGE, Auburn

"The Niners need to work on their edge group, though a big boost will come from the returns of Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams from injury. Faulk is an intriguing prospect whose tape was better in 2024 than 2025 (7.0 sacks compared with 2.0, respectively). But his skill set is too good to ignore: He's 6-6, 276 pounds with positional versatility and stout run defense. A defensive line coach will see the potential to develop Faulk into a much more consistent rusher, as he won't turn 21 until September."

CBS Sports: Josh Edwards

Caleb Banks - DL, Florida

"San Francisco has been drawn to the long interior defenders in the past. Although Robert Saleh is no longer the defensive coordinator inciting those personnel acquisitions, one would think that is a profile that still appeals to Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers used two picks on defensive tackles last year, but now get another really talented prospect to pair with Osa Odighizuwa."

Caleb Lomu - OT, Utah

"We might look back in a few years and Lomu is the best tackle in the class."

"San Francisco should be eyeing potential successors like Lomu, a two-year starting left tackle at Utah."

Caleb Lomu - OT, Utah

"One of the better picks of the back half of this mock draft so far. Lomu is a prospect still in need of further development, which makes him a perfect match for a 49ers team with a talented, aging veteran in Trent Williams that Lomu could learn from and replace one day."

"Lomu played on the left side in Utah and has a high ceiling thanks to his athleticism and foot speed. He needs more development and could start at guard to begin his career..."

Christian McCaffrey Takes on Disneyland Dad Duties | Off the Field

Not all dads do Disneyland the same, and RB Christian McCaffrey is making that clear.

The 49ers running back traded touchdowns for stroller duty this offseason, spending a day at Disneyland Park alongside his family, his wife, and their daughter, Colette.

In a video posted to social media, McCaffrey joked, "A lot of people say Disney isn't for all dads… but I'm not all dads."

From navigating crowds to keeping up with a full day at the park, the All-Pro showed off a different kind of versatility... bobbing and weaving through pedestrians with a stroller instead of defenders.

Internet Reacts

The clip quickly caught traction online with fans, teams, and brands all joining in.

The San Francisco 49ers chimed in with, "He's not a regular dad, he's a cool dad 😎" while Stanford Football, McCaffrey's alma mater, added, "Dad of the year candidate 🍼"

Even Disney Parks joined the fun commenting, "Gotta keep that stroller in bounds 😂."

A New Chapter Off the Field

In July 2025, McCaffrey and Olivia Culpo welcomed their daughter, Colette, stepping into a new chapter off the field.

Since becoming a father, the 49ers running back has shared glimpses of that experience which is a role that looks a little different than Sundays at Levi's® Stadium.

"Watching your daughter grow has been the coolest thing in my life," McCaffrey said in a recent interview with E! News. "Watching her develop a personality, start to notice the world, smile, move... It's been awesome."

Moments like his Disneyland outing reflect that shift, offering a new view of the 2025 NFL Comeback player of the Year not just as one of the league's most dynamic players, but as a hands-on father enjoying the simple day to days.

Bears, University of Illinois share long, storied history

The City of Chicago is roughly 140 miles from downstate Champaign. But the Bears and the University of Illinois boast a shared history that predates the birth of the NFL. In honor of the Fighting Illini heading to the Final Four, take a look at the connections between the two storied institutions.

The connection between the Bears and the University of Illinois started with George Halas, who founded the Bears in 1920 after graduating from Illinois in 1918. Papa Bear played football, baseball and basketball for the Fighting Illini and brought the school's navy and orange colors with him to the Bears.

In 1925, the Bears scored a major coup by signing Illinois superstar Red Grange, college football's top player. Grange played his final game for Illinois Nov. 21, signed with the Bears Nov. 22 and made his NFL debut Nov. 26—in a 0-0 tie against the Chicago Cardinals before a crowd of 36,000 on Thanksgiving Day at Wrigley Field.

Grange then headlined a barnstorming tour throughout December and January during which the Bears played an astounding 19 games, traveling from coast-to-coast. Grange's presence on the tour helped pro football explode in popularity.

Grange and Dick Butkus are the only two Illinois football players to have their numbers retired. Before Butkus joined the Bears as a first-round draft pick in 1965, the Hall of Fame middle linebacker was a two-time consensus All-American at Illinois, where he played center and fullback in addition to linebacker.

Butkus finished third in Heisman Trophy voting as a senior in 1964 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983.

Halas, Grange and Butkus are among more than 50 players who have suited up for both Illinois and the Bears. Others include J.C. Caroline, Jim Grabowski, Kelvin Hayden, Tom Hicks, Dana Howard, Ed O'Bradovich, Revie Sorey, Ed Sternaman, Joe Sternaman, Calvin Thomas and Laurie Walquist.

The Bears played all of their home games at Illinois' Memorial Stadium in 2002 when Soldier Field was being renovated.

Bears eager to get DBs Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon back at full strength

PHOENIX – Acquiring players via free agency, trades and the draft isn't the only way the Bears can improve in 2026. They are also hoping for two of their best defensive players to be fully healthy.

Last year, two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson and versatile nickel back Kyler Gordon were limited to seven and three regular-season games, respectively, before both came back to play in the Bears' two postseason contests.

"It's almost like we're starting over completely again this spring in terms of relationship building and starting off on the right track," coach Ben Johnson said this week at the NFL owners meetings. "But we're a better team, we're certainly a better defense, when those two guys are out there. There's a reason why they're paid the way they're paid. We need them out there."

After missing training camp and the preseason due to a groin injury that required surgery, Jaylon Johnson appeared in only one of the Bears' first 11 games before returning to play the final eight contests, including playoffs.

Gordon missed the first four games with a hamstring injury. He played in back-to-back wins over the Commanders and Saints but then suffered calf and groin injuries in practice that sidelined him for 11 of the final 12 regular-season contests.

The impact that a healthy Johnson and Gordon can make figures to extend beyond the secondary to the entire defense.

"The tighter they are in coverage, the better our pass rush is going to be," Ben Johnson said. "That's what you look at watching the self-scout. I know there's a lot of emphasis on the pass rush—I got it—but there's a marriage between that rush and coverage as well. So we need those guys out there. I really look forward to having them out there this spring and during training camp and getting able to get some really good work out of them."

Johnson is just as excited to begin working with some of the new additions. That includes linebacker Devin Bush, a speedy free-agent acquisition who excels in coverage. The seven-year NFL veteran displayed his speed last season when he intercepted a Joe Burrow pass and returned it 97 yards for a touchdown.

Bush brings experience to the Bears, having appeared in 98 NFL games with 78 starts for the Steelers (2019-22), Seahawks (2023) and Browns (2024-25). Last year, he was the only NFL player to return two interceptions for TDs.

"You go back and you see in our system, how we viewed him coming out of college, he's one of those guys that had a Bears box," Johnson said. "The character matched up with the play style. He's one of those guys. I think he's going to fit in nicely with what we're doing. He's smart. He loves ball. So I feel good that he's going to be a great scheme match."

Bush joins a Bears defense that led the NFL last season with 33 takeaways and 23 interceptions. Players who accounted for 18 of those picks won't return in 2026, but Johnson isn't concerned because he feels that takeaways are not sustainable and believes strongly in defensive backs coach Al Harris.

"He's a phenomenal football coach, obviously, but he's just got a way of teaching these guys to be in a good spot and take the ball away," Johnson said. "That's been his 'MO' since he was coaching DBs in Dallas and that carried on over here. That's why I do have confidence, is that he's still with us.

"Those guys as an entire unit—I'm talking about Richard Smith at linebackers as well—they're very ball conscious, looking to punch that ball out any opportunity that they get. And we're going to continue to make that a focal point for us because, truth be told, that was a big reason for our success last year was our ability to take the ball away."

Johnson feels fortunate that Harris is back with the Bears for a second season.

"It's just a matter of time before he gets that coordinator job," Johnson said. "I know he felt very strongly about coming back in Chicago as well. He had a great time last year. I don't want to speak for him, but he and I had great conversations in terms of his role and his value for us. I think he knows that he's a big reason for our success."

Bears coach Ben Johnson IDs areas of emphasis for 2026 season

PHOENIX – During a magical 2025 season, a resurgent offense led the Bears to the NFC North title and a thrilling playoff win over the rival Packers.

In coach Ben Johnson's first season working with talented young quarterback Caleb Williams, the Bears scored the third most points (441) in franchise history and ranked second in the NFL with 127 explosive plays.

Despite that success, there's no chance that Johnson will hurt his arm patting himself on the back. This week at the NFL owners meetings, the second-year coach detailed what aspects of the offense he's focused on improving.

"We ran the ball well, but our passing game still leaves something to be desired," Johnson said. "Coaching-wise, we need to do a better job getting the primary receiver open. Our route detail has to improve. And our ball location and simply catching the football has to improve there."

A major emphasis will be placed on getting the primary receiver open.

"I don't think it happened at a high enough clip, and so we have to do a better job in our game-planning process," Johnson said. "I put a lot of that on myself of making sure that we are doing that. And then that's where Caleb comes in handy is he can bail us out when we are wrong, which we're going to be wrong each and every game. I'm going to mistime some calls or they're going to throw something at us that we weren't prepared for.

"That's what I'm looking forward to is we're going to be able to have those conversations in the quarterback room of when can we hang in there and get this ball out to the primary or the No. 2 receiver, and when do we need to extend. We've got to get better when we extend plays, capitalizing on those as well. Our scramble tape was not very good, and I think that's something that Caleb can really sink into. Just with his accuracy, with our ability to catch the ball, with our ability to separate down the field, I think we can make a huge jump there as well."

Johnson is just as determined to eliminate the slow starts the Bears experienced, especially during the second half of the year. They rallied to win six regular-season games and one playoff contest after trailing in the final 2:00 of regulation. But many of those comebacks were necessitated by struggling early.

"In terms of when we need to be at our best in the fourth quarter, that has to stay the same," Johnson said. "Those guys came through. They had belief and it showed up. They played really well in the fourth quarter.

"Now I look back—I'm talking the last eight games, playoffs included—we scored more points fourth quarter on than we did quarters one to three. That wasn't the case the first half of the season, and so we've got to figure out why we started the second half of the season so slow on offense. That's a big mission of mine. We don't want to put ourselves behind the eight ball each and every week. That's not a formula for sustained success.

"We're better than that. We have too much talent on our offensive side of the ball for us to start off so slow and to dig ourselves in holes like that. We're going to find out what that is. A lot of times when you find areas to improve [and] you draw attention to it, that stuff gets corrected. Guys take a lot of pride in it."

Major progress

Johnson reflected on the huge strides that Williams and the offense made in 2025. He told reporters about recently showing two new assistants tape of last year's Family Fest practice at Soldier Field, which was held a week before the preseason opener.

"Both those coaches ended up turning around like, 'How did you guys wind up winning any games last year?' They couldn't believe it," Johnson said. "They saw what the actual plays in-season looked like and to see where we started was like, 'wow.' It's an eye opener.

"The hope is—not just for Caleb but for our entire offense—that we start a lot further along in the spring and in training camp than where we were a year ago, and I feel pretty confident that that is going to be the case. I know he got so much better over the course of the season of being able to take the game plan on a Wednesday, hearing these plays for the first time and going out on the field—whether it's walk-through or for actual speed reps—and being able to regurgitate that play, break the huddle, and us being able to execute it.

"So there were baby steps throughout the season. And yet when we see it from the start of camp there all the way until the end, [it's] like 'OK, we're cooking here.' The point is we've got to start there. We have to start there here in the springtime and I think if we do, we'll see another big step for the entire unit."

Man in the middle

Johnson acknowledged that the addition of veteran center Garrett Bradbury likely will result in some subtle scheme changes. Bradbury was acquired via a trade with the Patriots to replace Pro Bowler Drew Dalman, who unexpectedly retired.

"We will always take our time in the spring and during training camp to figure out what we do best, what our guys do best," Johnson said. "Does it tweak schematically what we ask them to do? Sure. I think that's what good coaches do and that's what [offensive line coach] Dan [Roushar] does a great job of coaching up. So we'll see what [Bradbury] does best and we'll look to emphasize that.

"I'm sure things will change a little bit. But what I am excited about is I only got to talk to him briefly when he came in after the trade and yet I could tell how bright he is and I think the chemistry in the room is really not going to miss a beat."

High praise for new OC

Johnson expects a smooth transition with Press Taylor being elevated from passing game coordinator in 2025 to offensive coordinator.

"The beautiful thing there is that Press was with us a year ago," Johnson said. "So he knows what to expect. He's not learning the offense. He's not learning how the playcaller's mind works or anything like that. He's able to really look and fill voids. And I think that's what the best assistant coaches do is they find blind spots and they go ahead and look to solve those issues themselves rather than allowing them to become big issues. He does that. He does that at a high level."

Johnson had high praise for Taylor, who joined the Bears after spending three seasons as Bengals offensive coordinator from 2022-24.

"He's extremely smart," Johnson said. "He's the most organized coach I've ever been around at this level. He's got libraries of plays. He knows when we're going against this defensive coordinator, we can go to this little section that he's already got labeled for that guy and that particular scheme and the things that have given them issues in the past. And that gives us a good starting point each and every week of where we can start with a game plan. And so I feel really good about the transition.

"He was natural in front of the room, the opportunities that he got last year. He's been a coordinator before, [so] that helps. That experience really helps. And he's got the respect of the coaching staff as well. So whenever I'm not in the room, he knows exactly how to drive the ship so that we're still being productive."

5 things we learned from Ben Johnson at owners meetings

PHOENIX – Bears coach Ben Johnson spoke to the media Monday at the NFL owners meetings. Here are five things we learned from that session:

(1) Johnson wants to get the ball into explosive receiver Luther Burden III's hands "as often as we possibly can" this season.

Last year, the rookie second-round pick from Missouri blossomed into a key contributor over the second half of the season, regularly displaying big-play ability and excellent run-after-catch skills. After averaging 1.9 receptions for 24.4 yards in his first seven games, he averaged 4.3 catches for 60.1 yards in his final eight contests.

"He's exactly what we thought we were getting out of the draft last year," Johnson said. "This guy is a dynamic playmaker. He's got some of the best run-after-the-catch in the game right now. I really believe that. We've got to continue to get the ball in his hands as often as we possibly can.

"What I've grown to love about him is this guy loves football. He's been in all offseason. He's been lifting weights with our strength staff. He's really, really excited to get a full offseason going and look to develop a bigger route tree."

Burden and rookie first-round choice Colston Loveland—a tight end from Michigan—both emerged over the second half of the year after missing most or all of the offseason program with injuries. After averaging 1.8 catches and 19.3 yards with no touchdowns in six games played in September and October, Loveland averaged 4.9 receptions and 65.8 yards with six TDs in the Bears' final 12 contests, including the postseason.

"Both [Burden] and Colston, as young players, as rookies that didn't have a full offseason last year, it took us a little bit longer to get them going and really [get] the production that we had hoped for," Johnson said. "By midseason, the confidence had grown. I certainly felt better about putting [Burden] in different spots, running different routes, and Caleb had developed a rapport by that point. That's where you started to see things take off for Luther."

(2) Johnson revealed that Bears personnel evaluators and coaches agree that new center Garrett Bradbury will fit the team "like a glove."

After Pro Bowler Drew Dalman unexpectedly retired, Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles and their respective staffs identified Bradbury as the perfect replacement. The Bears proceeded to acquire the eight-year NFL veteran from the Patriots in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick.

"We went through a whole process," Johnson said. "Ryan and his crew and then [offensive line coach] Dan Roushar and [assistant offensive line coach] Kyle DeVan had a heavy say in it as well in terms of evaluating what the replacements were going to look like. We came to a consensus that Garrett was going to fit us like a glove."

Bradbury was selected by the Vikings with the 18th pick of the 2019 draft out of North Carolina State. A regular starter from Day 1, he spent his first six seasons with Minnesota before opening all 17 games for the AFC champion Patriots last year.

In Chicago, Bradbury will reunite with All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney, his former N.C. State teammate and roommate for road games.

"[Bradbury] had a lot of success last year; made it to the Super Bowl," Johnson said. "Very cerebral player. Joe Thuney knows him really well, so there's some natural chemistry that I think we're going to have on the inside.

"He's going to fit what we like to do in the run game with our wide zone, running off the football. And when we watched him, we felt really good about what he did in pass pro as well. I think he's going to be really what the doctor ordered for us in terms of [replacing] a guy like Drew. He had a Pro Bowl season and played really, really well, and yet we feel like Garrett is going to fit us really well also."

(3) Johnson views new safety Coby Bryant as a tone-setter who will bring a nasty disposition to coordinator Dennis Allen's defense.

Bryant signed a three-year contract with the Bears after spending his first four seasons with the Seahawks. Last year he helped Seattle win the Super Bowl, starting all 15 games he played and recording a career-high four interceptions.

"It's something that 'DA' brought up as we're going over self-scout over the last month and a half was the best defenses usually have two or three trained killers," Johnson said. "You usually don't have 11 of them, OK, but you've got two or three that are tone-setters that can really elevate the play of everyone around him. When we watched the tape, we felt like that jumped off when Coby was on the field. He's a guy that comes out, whether he's playing quarters, playing the post, playing down in the box, he's coming down, and if he sees somebody, he's looking to light them up.

"There are certainly some things to his game that we're going to look to improve; that's like that with every player. And yet we feel like he's got a really solid foundation with his play style that's going to naturally just percolate with it with the rest of the guys."

Johnson sensed that killer instinct a few weeks ago when Bryant arrived at Halas Hall after signing with the Bears.

"My little exposure with him when he came in was, 'Holy cow, this guy has got the 'it' factor to him,'" Johnson said. "He's got some dynamic traits in terms of his personality that I think are going to rub off on our guys—and not to mention the way he plays the game is what we want our defense to look like as well."

(4) Johnson indicated that left tackle Braxton Jones has bulked up and is "very determined to get his career trajectory back to where it was before."

An unrestricted free agent for the first time this offseason, Jones signed a one-year contract to return to the Bears in large part due to the chance to compete for his old starting job. Last year, rookie second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo had seemingly established himself at the position, but he suffered a knee injury in the playoff win over the Packers that is expected to sideline him for most or all of the 2026 season.

Selected by the Bears in the fifth round of the 2022 draft out of Southern Utah, Jones started all 17 games as a rookie. He remained the No. 1 left tackle the next two seasons, though injuries limited him to 11 contests in 2023 and 12 in 2024.

Despite still rebounding from a broken fibula that ended his 2024 campaign, Jones won a competition last summer with Trapilo, Theo Benedet and Kiran Amegadjie for the starting left tackle position. Jones opened the first four games before being replaced by Trapilo in the second quarter of a road win over the Raiders.

A few weeks later, Jones sustained a knee injury in practice that sidelined him for the rest of the season. He did return to practice in advance of the playoffs but did not play in either of the Bears' two postseason games.

"We started the season with Braxton," Johnson said. "He would tell you he still didn't feel 100% like himself from the prior year's injury. What he put on tape those first four games, he didn't feel like was very reflective of what he's capable of. Looking back at it, we would agree with that. There's more in there than what we saw. He ended up getting injured in practice during the season, so we lost him for a stretch as well and only got him back right there at the very end, and we didn't feel like it was fair to force him into action in the playoffs right off the bench just like that.

"I'm excited about where he's at right now. He came in when he signed the contract and he looked like a brand-new man as far as I'm concerned. This guy was beefed up. He was probably 310 pounds and he looked yoked up. He's very determined to get his career trajectory back to where it was before."

(5) Johnson "stood on the table" for the Bears to sign free agent receiver/return specialist Kalif Raymond.

Johnson, receivers coach/assistant head coach Antwaan Randle El and quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett all worked with Raymond with the Lions from 2022-24.

In five total seasons with Detroit, Raymond caught 171 passes for 2,185 yards and eight touchdowns. He also averaged 11.3 yards on 132 punt returns with three touchdowns, earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2022 and 2024. His 413 punt return yards were the most in the NFL in 2024 even though he only played in 12 games.

"Anytime you have a touchpoint with a player, whether it's through free agency or the draft, it helps [that] you know what you're going to get," Johnson said. "Any time one of our coaches or personnel guys has a chance to be with another player, you feel pretty good. Absolutely, I stood on the table for Kalif. So did Randle El, so did J.T. Barrett. We know him really well. We know what he's going to bring to the table. He's a phenomenal teammate. It starts there. He's going to elevate that locker room. He's going to practice his tail off. That's what he's done his entire career."

Raymond entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016 from Holy Cross but did not blossom until he joined the Lions in 2021. He spent his first few years in the league shuffling between the Broncos (2016), Jets (2017), Giants (2017), Titans (2018), Giants again (2018) and Titans again (2018-20).

"He's one of those guys that has flown under the radar," Johnson said. "He's had to earn every little thing that he's gotten, so his story really resonates with a lot of guys in that locker room. I'm excited to see what he'll bring to the table for us. He's going to get what he earns as well. It's no different for him. I have high expectations for him because I've been with him before and I know what he's capable of, but he's got to come into training camp and prove that again and again. I'm excited about that addition."

Lady Bears, local group of diehard fans, pair love for Bears with passion for community

In celebration of Women's History Month, the Chicago Bears are giving flowers by recognizing impact, honoring legacy and elevating women whose leadership continues to move football forward. ChicagoBears.com spoke with a group of women, self-titled the Lady Bears, who have built a tight knit community around their diehard Bears fandom and passion for giving back to their city.

For most of Chicagoland, Sundays in the fall are reserved for watching Bears games, and for a group of 10 women who refer to their group of diehard fans as the "Lady Bears," that sentiment rings true. However, for the Lady Bears, gamedays consist of much more than just watching their favorite NFL team compete.

"We put together a schedule for the season, and each lady that hosts the game is responsible for providing all the food, and if we want to bring drinks, we can add drinks to the table," Lady Bears founder Donna Cole-Scott said. "We do have one major stipulation. You can only wear Bears gears and you can only root for the Bears. No ifs, ands or buts."

Houses decked out in Bears decorations, custom merch and even karaoke after-parties are just a few staples of what a Lady Bears party entails. But most importantly, the group is designed to foster long-term friendships, bring upon lighthearted fun and of course, cheer their beloved Bears on.

It all started 43 years ago when Scott married her late husband in 1983 and wanted to be involved in watching sports with him, particularly the Bears. By 1984, Scott was hooked and identified as a superfan. But once her husband passed away in 2013, she began missing the feeling of watching football with someone that loved the game as much as her.

So in 2015, Scott decided to ask her best friends and fellow Bears fans, LaShonn Sims and Lynette Barron, if they wanted to start watching games together at different sports bars.

The rest is history.

"It was consistently three of us," Sims said. "And then what happened was we discovered within our own friend circle that there were other friends that liked the Bears. Then we kind of brought them into the fold."

Once the pandemic hit in 2020, the group had to put a pause on their tradition. Deeply missing those Sunday outings, Scott remembers talking to her daughter who suggested the women begin hosting watch parties at their homes. The Lady Bears were back on, and really, better than ever. Going from home to home for every game — home, away, playoffs — gave the women an authentic space to grow closer and cheer louder.

"Women have always been able to nurture everyone else," Scott said. "But being part of the Lady Bears is for us. I mean, it is truly for us to come together as a group, laugh, joke, enjoy the game and not even worry about what the kids are going to eat or who's doing this or who's doing that. That time is really for us. It is truly for us. We love every bit of it because especially with how crazy the world can get, it's a time where it's an open space to just talk about anything we want to talk about and have fun. We as a society, we have forgotten how to have fun."

At their core, the Lady Bears are simply a group of female fans that are passionate about football and the Bears — which, for most, are their hometown team. But as time went on, the ladies furthered their connection to involve positively impacting the Chicago community.

"We are also very community oriented," Sims said. "We don't just watch football and have fun. We do other things in our community, much like the Bears.

"We enjoy giving back to the community. We're very youth-oriented in many of our ventures that we deal with, our giveaways or fundraisers, cancer walks, just things that we're passionate about in terms of community and give back."

Participating in community service now holds the same significance in being in the group as possessing a deep love for the Bears does — both traits that the Lady Bears are now passing onto their own children and grandchildren.

For Sims' daughter Sierra, a 5th- and 6th-grade teacher at KIPP Bloom College Prep on the city's South Side, joining the Lady Bears initially proved to be a taller task than she expected.

"It's funny because when myself and my Auntie Donna's daughter, Melissa, found out that these Lady Bears were doing all this fun stuff, we were like, 'wait a second, we gotta get in on this,'" Sierra said. "And then we were told we needed to be 40 and up. So, it was not even an option. And then they were like, 'well, actually, we need some legacies to continue this, so we'll give you guys this pass to come in before 40.'"

Now, the group has six Legacy Bears, who are able to participate in the fun, with the stipulation that they intend to carry the tradition on through their adulthoods.

"I am just thrilled that we truly have kids who have embraced the game of football like we do, and that they're willing to move this forward as we age," Sims said. "I just think that's such a great thing. And it's just such a close knit group that it almost should have happened before now, because they are a big part of it. They embrace how we do things. They understand how we do things. They love the game even more now. So everybody has gotten something from doing what we've done."

What started out as three women watching Bears games at sports bars has now turned into an intergenerational community of women who unite every Sunday to celebrate their shared love for the Bears.

Members of the Bears staff were able to see that camaraderie firsthand last fall when Sierra was selected as a winner of the club's Classroom Legends award, a program powered by CDW that honors educators who go above and beyond to support their students and build inclusive inspiring school communities across Chicagoland.

        <picture is-lazy="/t_lazy"></picture>

Sims helped coordinate the surprise for her daughter, which included a few members of the Lady Bears, including Scott, showing up at the school. For Sierra, that moment encompassed the beauty of the Lady Bears community.

"For me, it's really cool because I get to hang out with not just people that I consider family, but it also brings together one of the strongest group of women that I've ever met in my life," Sierra said. "So as a younger person, I feel like there's so much wisdom in the room. Even when we do things outside of Bears games, we learn from each other. We grow together. So all of those things have definitely been near and dear to my heart. And I thought it was one of the most special invitations I've ever received."

For the Lady Bears, the 2025 season was a rather eventful one between Sierra receiving the Classroom Legends award, the group hosting their first-ever potluck parties for the Bears' playoff games and of course, celebrating the success of the team. One of the highlights for the group was even being a part of a Bears' social media post that compiled various "Good, Better, Best!" renditions from community groups, fans, Chicago celebrities and more.

While the 2026 NFL season is still more than five months away, the Lady Bears are already in planning and scheduling mode. For them, the season never actually ends. At Super Bowl parties, they dress as if the Bears are competing. At work or around the community, they stay decked out in Bears gear year-round. They aren't fair-weather fans. And they certainly are proud to embody the Bears culture at all times.

Their dedication to not only the Bears, but also the Chicagoland community that supports and loves their team, is what makes the Lady Bears a one-of-a-kind group with an unbreakable bond.

"I'm a sports fan for everybody in Chicago, but the Bears are a different level for me," Sims said. "They are my heart more than anything."

Who analysts predict Bears will select at No. 25

With the NFL Draft only one month away, we reviewed a dozen mock drafts to see who pro football analysts are projecting the Bears will select with the 25th pick in the first round:

Richie Bradshaw, Sports Illustrated (March 19)
Pick: Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman at No. 19 via trade with Panthers
Comment: This move up the board ensures the Bears' safety play doesn't fall off a cliff after last season's production. The team made an excellent addition with Coby Bryant to shore up one spot, but the starting position opposite him remained open. Enter Thienemen, who went from being a household name at Purdue to a household name at Oregon.

Bucky Brooks, NFL.com (March 24)
Pick: Toledo safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Comment: McNeil-Warren is an enticing safety prospect with a rare combination of skills as a center fielder and box-area bandit.

Kyle Dvorchak, NBC Sports (March 20)
Pick: Clemson edge rusher T.J. Parker
Comment: The Bears made several big additions in free agency. Now they turn to Parker, who totaled 21.5 sacks in three years at Clemson.

Eric Edholm, NFL.com (March 19)
Pick: Missouri edge rusher Zion Young
Comment: Assuming the Bears don't still make a bigger offseason splash on a veteran, I think an edge rusher could be their Round 1 target. General manager Ryan Poles was camped out by the pass-rush one-on-ones for much of Senior Bowl week, and the long-framed Young stood out to me in Mobile a hair more than Clemson's T.J. Parker.

Josh Edwards, CBS Sports (March 19)
Pick: Miami edge rusher Akheem Mesidor
Comment: Edge rusher and defensive tackle are probably the most impactful positions Chicago could add. Akheem Mesidor is an older prospect who should be able to contribute immediately opposite Montez Sweat.

Tyler Erzberger, Newsweek (March 20)
Pick: Toledo safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Comment: McNeil-Warren would be a perfect addition to a young, exciting Bears team that has a lot to prove in 2026.

Jared Feinberg, Sports Illustrated (March 21)
Pick: Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods
Comment: I have no idea what the NFL thinks of this defensive tackle class, but the run could begin in the 20s, starting with the Bears and Woods, who have supreme talent that was never fully introduced at Clemson. By allowing him to be a three-tech disruptor, Woods would be an exceptional player for Chicago's interior defensive line.

Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, USA Today (March 23)
Pick: Toledo safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Comment: Ryan Poles has already demonstrated that he's willing to pay a premium for playmaking ability at safety after handing Coby Bryant a three-year, $40 million deal. He can complete his team's transformation at the position by nabbing McNeil-Warren, an authoritative run stopper who has considerable upside in matching up against the NFC North's imposing tight ends.

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports (March 23)
Pick: Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods
Comment: He played heavy last year and didn't play as well. That's why he's down this far in the draft. But Woods was once considered a top-10 talent and his weight is down.

Chad Reuter, NFL.com (March 20)
Pick: Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman at No. 30 via trade with Dolphins
Comment: The Bears luck into finding the athletic but tough-minded Thieneman available despite trading down for much-needed draft
