Hugo

Hugo is a open-source static site generators. It can be used to generate GitHub pages. You can read more about GitHub pages here.

Static site generators have become very popular recently because they are more secure then dynamic websites and load much faster. This site does a good job of covering the benefits that static sites have over CMS sites like WordPress.

Hugo is written in Go which is a statically compiled language making it the fast fastest static site generator. You can read more about the Go programming language here. You do not need to know Go in order to use Hugo. Most Hugo content pages are created using Markdown, Mmark, or MathJax.

It uses themes which you can download to allow you to quickly setup a website. You can also customize the theme to your liking. You can find a list of Hugo themes at https://themes.gohugo.io/.
