Relation to STAC API - Children #3

I'm also wondering what the difference to a static STAC catalog is? It would pretty much serve the same purpose from my understanding, with the exception that it lists all sub-catalogs in one request. This could be achieved with the STAC API - Children extension though. So in that sense this extension seems to solve the same purpose then core STAC + STAC API Children, just slightly different. I'm wondering whether we can avoid the proliferation?
By the way, how is the relation to this discussion? radiantearth/stac-api-spec#239 It seems related, too.
