Since aqua support has been rejected from the homebrew trunk many times over the past few years, this will require a forked version. This one appears to be the latest attempt:

v3 would probably be more helpful. But currently the Gtk package looks for v2, unless you change the version in the source.

I promise I have been working on this. :P Some recent improvements to Homebrew are even due to my work on this, the Gtk environments are more complex than anything else we've dealt with so far, and winter break hasn't been productive for me because UW IT screwed up their networking logic so I haven't been able to remote in and reach the Mac Mini that I build all the Julia stuff on.

No hurry, my main point in posting the update was to potentially save you some work with regards to v2. @vtjnash could say more, surely, but since I noticed he had changed this I thought I'd better provide an update.

I changed it by mistake on master. My initial reasons for requiring Gtk-2 was the lack of support for OS-X (Aqua) and Windows. The support for both of those has improved somewhat since then.

An update on this; I'm working on getting a virtual machine setup on my mac mini to run 10.7 so that I can build bottles for 10.7 properly. Once that infrastructure is setup, I can continue on to this.

I actually prefer the X11 version of GTK on Mac OS X and it is better supported as well. Is there any chance you will be supporting both?

as a start, could you enable quartz support in cairo and pango? it doesn't look like either library cares if it is built to support all available backends, so it seems foolish not to

@vtjnash Could you test the new pango/cairo bottles and see if Quartz support is enabled? It should be, by default I believe.

I'm not sure how to test that without Gtk binaries also. If you have the log files, just see what ./configure says it built and see if it contains quartz

OpenGL possibly, but xlib brings in the X11 stack as dependencies, and that is not something we want, I don't think. X11 is really really ugly on OSX anyway; I can't imagine a reason someone would prefer the X11 backend over the Quartz backend.
