I reproduced the same issue loading the same file to a PyPortal. Failed at the sme percentage loaded. (26%)

The same workaround was also successful on the Pyportal

one more piece of information -- I am able to upload the same single file (adafruit repo build) to a feather_huzzah_esp32 via the USB port so perhaps the issue is related to the "PassThru" program.

as requested by @nevercast in the original discussion in the ESP32SPI PR I reran both load attempts with the --no-stub option enabled
the single file still fails -- at a higher percentage

the two images -- one built in the adafruit repo and one built in the docmollo repo have similar sizes and the same load addresses. But one loads and the other fails when the single file load is attempted.

I do know that while I was working on this code, uploading to the ESP32 via the passthrough was more finicky than I would like. That said, I was able to get things to work fairly consistently. I'll take a look at this after I've got the ESP32SPI PR closed, so it might be a week or so before I have time to look at this issue. Thanks for helping test the code!

@jerryneedell We have a guide for upgrading the ESP32 firmware (here: https://learn.adafruit.com/upgrading-esp32-firmware). I've been uploading/flashing nina-fw the past two weeks without running into a timeout.

Is it ok to close this issue and re-open in the future if we encounter this again?
