Limiting plain Markdown image embeds to post/container width?

I am migrating a Jekyll blog to the al-folio template with several hundred posts, most of which contain at least one image.

Question: How do I limit image width to the container/post width? Ideally, I'd prefer to not to decorate every image reference with liquid tags or use a photo gallery plugin. I just want plain markdown images in posts to get a max-width property applied.

I am embedding images using basic markdown like:

I solved this by adding the following to the end of _sass/_base.scss:

img {
    max-width: 100%;
}
