Is this library fully supported to work with Cassandra 4.0

Depends on how you define fully supported... Do you have any particular features in mind?

If you use protocol version 4 (the latest stable version at the moment), which is the default, it should work as usual since Cassandra 4.0 still supports protocol V4.

There is also protocol version 5. This version of the protocol is marked as beta/development version on the Cassandra side until 4.0 is released, which means there might be incompatible changes in the protocol specification until the final (non-beta) version is released. In fact, there was one such change recently (see CASSANDRA-15299 and CASSANDRA-14688). gocql implements an older version of protocol V5 at the moment, and will need to be updated to support the new framing. I have opened #1522 to track this issue.

Most of the features of Cassandra 4.0 are implemented server side and should work with either protocol version.

We don't run the gocql test suite against Cassandra 4.0 at the moment.

@nathandragun I've just tried to run that code to connect code against cassandra:4.0@sha256:f359dd19859c45ad5924c20de2dd629f701513a1f0069695c07425bb4c2344d3 (which is 4.0-beta3) Docker image (with default settings) and I didn't see any errors. Please open a separate issue where you specify exact versions of Cassandra/gocql/Go that you are using.

The issue can be closed. Currently, users can use gocql and C* 4.0. with ease.
Proto v5 support will be introduced in (#1822), C* 4.0 table options are already merged into the trunk with (#1791).
