About the Meetup

I am proposing to host an AsyncAPI meetup in Pune to introduce the tech community to event-driven APIs and AsyncAPI standards. Since awareness of AsyncAPI is still low, this meetup will focus on education, hands-on learning, and networking.

I have previously delivered talks at DevConf Pune and FOSSUnited Meetup, where I received positive feedback and encouragement from the community. This support has inspired me to organise this AsyncAPI meetup and build a local community around event-driven architecture.

Objectives

• Raise awareness of AsyncAPI among developers and tech enthusiasts in Pune.
• Provide practical, hands-on experience with event-driven API design.
• Build a small local AsyncAPI community to encourage future collaborations and meetups.

Agenda

• 5mins welcome and introduction
• 10mins opening note
• 25mins session#1 (20+5 format)
• 15mins lightning talk#1 (10+5 format)
• 20mins break
• 25mins session#2 (20+5 format)
• 15mins lightning talk#1 (10+5 format)
• 5mins closing note

Available Resources

• Volunteer Support: Local team will help organise, manage the event, and assist attendees during hands-on sessions
• Venue: With projector, internet, and seating for (30-50) participants. We will try managing this on our own.

Support Required

• AsyncAPI Resources: Branding, slides, and starter examples
• Community Support: Guidance and promotion from the AsyncAPI Working Group
• Food & Swag: Light refreshments/lunch and small branded items (stickers, notebooks, or similar)

Target Audience

• Developers curious about modern APIs
• Architects exploring micro-services and event-driven systems
• Students and early-career developers interested in learning new technologies

Hi @Shriya-Chauhan, you need to already have a venue, possible dates, and have already covered half of the items listed in Support Needed. The Conference WG will support in promotion, but most of the organisation's work will be done by the one leading the meetup. Reference the Check the FAQ's on the page or guidelines on the discussion.

The proposed date is too close, as it would mean the event is to be planned in a month. Communications need to be coordinated. Which leads me to ask:

1. Have you identified speakers as yet? Will there be a call for speakers?
2. How long will the event be, 2 hours/4hours?
3. How many people does the venue accommodate?

We will need to do registrations and also ask local Ambassadors and community members to support the event, hence we propose meetups to be announced 3 months in advance of the proposed dates.

To answer your questions:

1. We do have a few speakers from Pune who were briefed during past meetups with AsyncAPI talks and have potential interest
2. 2 hours for a kickoff meetup with below format

3. The venue can accomodate up to 100 attendees

Is there any way to get the list of local ambassadors and community members to make it easier for us to coordinate?

Hi @rashah09, thanks for the details. I have also shared with Shriya via Slack that we also need to bring this to the WG Meeting next week asyncapi/community#3498, so that other members can ask questions.

But I'll be very happy to support the coordination from the community aspect, but for the date, we need to extend it. It's very short notice.

Since we are 5 weeks away from the meetup, please do let me know what all help you need from Red Hat Pune including logistics, venue and operational approval, any refreshments, targeted reach out for audience, and any social media campaign that needs to be done. Red Hat Pune technical community and leadership council will be at the backbone of execution.

Hi Shriya, I came across your AsyncAPI meetup post and found it really interesting.
I’m a beginner in web development and recently started exploring open source. I wanted to ask how I can start contributing to AsyncAPI or similar projects as a beginner.
Also, since you are a GSoC contributor, it would be really helpful if you could guide me on what I should focus on from now to prepare for GSoC.
If possible, I would also love to attend the meetup and learn from you. Thanks!
