Remove installation from ./autorun.sh and try install from .deb

Hi

Running Proxmox with PVE headers 6.8.12-12-pve, and I installed the r8125 driver directly from Realtek (unpacked the tarball and ran ./autorun.sh)

While I can see the driver is loaded into the kernel with lsmod, the ethernet controller I am using (tp link TX201) does not show up in lspci.

I am hoping I may have more luck using the .deb package provided here.

I think I should probably uninstall the driver built by autorun, but unsure how or if its necessary before trying the .deb.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks

Hi,

You can check the system log to know why the driver doesn't work. Enter the Proxmox terminal and check the logs, search it with r8125 keyword. The driver failure message will be in the early part of the system message.

There is no official way of uninstalling r8125 driver that is installed by autorun.sh as far as I know. You can rollback the changes reffering to the installation script. (https://github.com/awesometic/realtek-r8125-dkms/blob/master/autorun.sh)

• Remove module file from $TARGET_PATH, which is under /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers
• Restore backup-ed r8169 module to renaming it from .bak to .ko or .ko.zst
• update-initramfs -u -k $(uname -r) if it needed

It may have the same problem with the .deb method because it just wrapped the driver source codes with DKMS way.

By the way, did you fix the ethernet controller problem? Now it shows up in lspci?

Hello, I did end up doing the same steps. Removing the old driver and installing the .deb. lsmod shows it loaded, but still my tx201 is not seen in lspci.

I ended up just using a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter which worked without additional drivers
