Use `unregistry` to remove the Docker registry dependency?

One of my biggest frustrations right now in setting up a kamal deployment is setting up the Docker container registry.

There's a new project called unregistry that lets you push images straight to remote Docker servers over SSH with docker pussh myapp:latest user@server.

This feels totally in line with Kamal's philosophy but I'd like to check with someone who knows a bit more about the architecture in this project before I attempt a PR.

Would this make sense to integrate into Kamal?

This would be an amazing default to have! I also don't know much about the internals of Kamal, so sorry if I'm totally off-base, but I think a lot of the SSH handling done in the local CLI portion of unregistry is already handled by Kamal. (key handling and opening a connection) The container that exposes the registry interface could be set up as an accessory though!

It would mean that you're setting up an accessory before any deployments. Not sure if that's currently possible.

I think there's also #1355 currently being worked on.

Hi @christiangenco - we already have a PR for local registries that implements a very similar idea - #1355, though it uses the standard registry image.

Unregistry is a neat solution, in hiding the complexity from the end user. Kamal can do that as well though, so I think it’s best to avoid the extra dependency.

It will be a little while before I can get that PR into a release though

This would be awesome. I'm using a local registry[1], but unregistry would be a huge improvement. The app I deploy is quite large (>5gb; lots of technical debt), and registries are slow. SSH would be at least 10x faster.

Oh, and also local registries need regular cleanup. Otherwise, 100s of GBs are filled.
