Offboard unaffiliated users

You are receiving this email because GitHub has identified that your enterprise, cloudfoundry, may need a process update to ensure users are properly offboarded when they are deprovisioned or removed from your enterprise’s organizations.

A recent product change now allows users to stay connected to an enterprise once organization access is revoked. If a user is removed from all organizations in your enterprise, they will now remain in the enterprise as an “unaffiliated user” instead of being automatically removed. Unaffiliated users no longer have access to private or internal repositories, but can still consume Copilot licenses if assigned at the enterprise level.

To fully offboard a user from your enterprise, you’ll now need to either:
Take the remove enterprise member action through the enterprise account People view, or
Set up automation using the remove enterprisemember GraphQL API endpoint.
Note: This applies even if you have SCIM configured at the organization level. You’ll need to take one of the actions above to fully remove users from the enterprise

There is an update about this from GitHub:

You now have a new policy option under Policies > Member Privileges > Unaffiliated users in your enterprise settings. This lets you choose what happens when organization access is revoked and the users are no longer associated with any organizations in your enterprise:
Users remain in the enterprise as unaffiliated users (current default)
Users are automatically removed from the enterprise (previous default behavior)
For those who rely on organization removal to fully offboard users, configuring this setting to option 2 restores that original automated behavior.

If you select option 2, you'll also have the option to remove any existing unaffiliated users. Note that this will remove them from enterprise teams and revoke their enterprise-level Copilot licenses.
