Web site (Bootstrap?) tutorial #14

After last month, I thought of a better homework assignment I could've given the two students I was working with. My original assignment was "If you feel like it, clone the source and add something new." A better assignment would probably be to provide a Bootstrap skeleton of a personal website and have them fill in the details. I think this would make a good tutorial for kids starting down the HTML track as well.

At a high level, it would probably be something like:

  • picture of myself / avatar
  • name
  • bio
  • hobbies / groups I belongs to (with links as appropriate)
  • favorite TV shows / video games / books / music
  • recent achievements / news ("Got an A!" "Made this website!" "Built a Minecraft level with over 1000 pigs!")

And then challenges like:

  • change the color of your name when someone hovers over it
  • change the layout of hobbies/favorites from a list to a grid
  • make your list drag/droppable (just for fun -- no persistence)
  • make a raptor scare your visitors using http://zurb.com/playground/jquery-raptorize?timed_launch=true
  • theme your site for an upcoming holiday (maybe change the colors, add a snowstorm, etc.)

Thoughts? I'm happy to write it up sometime in the next couple weeks.
