Install Claude GitHub app in conda and conda-incubator organization

i notice myself using claude code more and more in the recent weeks.
when i wanted to try out the iOS app this morning in the conda-mirror repo, i noticed that it could only create branches and pull requests (see here) on my personal fork. afaict there is no way to create a pull request for upstream repositories within the Claude Code UI.

are there any thoughts on installing the claude code app to the conda and/or conda-incubator (not conda-forge) organizations? this would make coding on the phone easier.

The permissions the tool is asking for: Read and write access to code, discussions, issues, pull requests, and workflows.

just a side note: you would need to enable it org-wide for it to have any effect. repo-wide installations for some reason don't seem to result in the repo showing up in https://claude.ai, seems to be a bug in claude code (at the time of writing).

currently every person (already) can use whatever tools locally (IDEs, AI based Agents, Generators, ...), you can even give github PATs (dangerous) to those tools to create PRs etc... this way whatever work is done, will be always in the name and responsibility of the person. That means the person has to sign CLA, be fully responsible for the work, ensure quality, ensure things work, react to PR comments, take credit or blame and shame for things etc

well, renovate/dependabot/pre-commit also do autonomous code changes (commits) in their name, but they are very much restricted to very very specific changes. And most repos in the org only require one single human reviewer (as the rules under which those tools operate have beeng reviewed in previous PRs) to merge PRs.

as of now, it works on behalf of a person prompting it to do things/open PRs, so there should be a person who is responsible for the PR. when you click "create PR" in the claude UI, it will look somewhat like this:

I'm not in favor of blanket availability of AI tools directly in the GitHub org since the legal ramifications (as Claude itself writes comments, rather than going through the development process in an IDE) and a lax handling of merge commits in the various repos. Could all contributors safely say that Claude-created commits are free of proprietary content, and they have the rights to assign it with the conda CLA?

do you mean like assigning copilot to certain issues? not that i know of but i can't predict the future

i am not sure what you mean by that. if you instruct claude appropriately (for example using a proper CLAUDE.md file), it can very well use things like linters, run the compiler as well as run tests. i don't see how this "development process" is worse/much different than a human working with an IDE

can you elaborate on this? i am not sure what you mean with that. if i use squash merges for PRs (like we do in conda-mirror as well as rattler), i don't see how claude's handling of merge commits affects anything.

this is a difficult question as we don't know what Claude was trained on. but since people are already using Claude for commiting to repos (for example https://github.com/conda/rattler/graphs/contributors), i don't see how adding claude as a github app would make any difference regarding this (maybe this makes it more "official" i guess?)
