nit: I personally like to have all non-user-facing named parameters as required, even if they're nullable so I don't forget to explicitly pass the parameter everywhere.

NS_RETURNS_RETAINEDannotations.__attribute__((ns_consumes_self)).First chunk #1446. I'm splitting off these bits because they're the minimal set of changes needed to get all the tests to pass again after fixing the method family parsing. The other bits of that bug are pretty self contained.
