For whatever reason, in #951 I added the single-char-input case after the multi-char-input case.

Obviously this is bonkers and needs to be the other way around.

I think this only needs to be a patch level version bump, but since our current understanding of versions is incomplete. (See #938) I suggest merging this change anyway.
