I would like the ability to set a personal default model that is used any time I start up a new copilot session.

Proposed solution

I noticed today, any time I open up a new session of Github Copilot CLI, the default model is now gpt-5.4 (medium).

Previously, the default was Claude Sonnet 4.6 (medium). I am requesting a feature that lets a user configure their default model, so that I do not have to change from a gpt to a claude model each session.

Updating this. Using Powershell terminal for github copilot CLI. I was able to update my custom powershell profile to include a function that sets the model to what I want on startup!
