Sysroot missing "sys/sdt.h"

This may actually be a gate manifest issue and I can push something to that bugtracker.

The sysroot does not have sys/sdt.h included. pulling in a copy from another tree gets it going

Out of interest, what are you trying to build against the sysroot that requires sys/sdt.h? That header comes from pkg:/developer/dtrace, which I expect we're not currently including in the archive.

I was trying to see how far I could get with some out of tree, cross compiled kernel modules, doing iterative dev on a linux box box as most of those headers are included in sysroot

Just so I don't need to have to ssh into dev VM/ I haven't had much luck with OI on any of my systems for native dev

Longer term it would be nice to copy BSD and see if its possible to use a sysroot to cross-compile gate on another system such as a linux container

Ah, I see. So I think that's a bit outside the goals of the sysroot archive we're publishing here. Mostly this is for building user software that uses public/stable interfaces.

If you're having issues with OpenIndiana or OmniOS or any other distribution, I'm sure we can get those sorted out.

As for cross-compilation of the OS, I would say that at the illumos project level:

• we're definitely interested in cross-compilation from one CPU architecture (e.g., x86) to another (e.g., ARM or RISC-V) running on an illumos system
• we're likely not interested in the kind of more invasive and restrictive changes that would be required to support cross-compilation from a foreign OS environment (e.g., Ubuntu or CentOS)

I had a feeling that would be the case, and have used custom Solaris sysroots for previous projects, but wanted to push my luck and see how far I would get.

If you're having issues with OpenIndiana or OmniOS or any other distribution, I'm sure we can get those sorted out.

It's mostly Drivers (graphics/wireless/acpi) but the main machine I'd like to use is an X79 bits-a build that to have an awkward uefi/component mix on the motherboard that has generally caused issues of the years, it's earmarked for an upgrade when hardware settles down again

Yeah hoping that this could be achieved without changes or with minimal changes that align to point 1 (or the general effort to ensure separation of build tree and build box that has been taking place already)

If bundling "sys/sdt.h" is considered outside the scope for this project, then please close
