I think @Honyii has been doing great, especially with managing this year's GSoC. I also think that the community manager role is very important and impactful and worth spending money on. However, I think $700/month is more than we can justify spending given our current funding levels. Based on the analysis I did recently, $700/month would be 60% of the budget I would propose and that budget includes deficit spending. We need to be spending that budget, but I don't think we should be spending most of it on one person. We should be sponsoring a variety of contributors that are important to the community. I don't think it's right to spend more on our newest contributor than everything else combined. We need to decide on a budget before we can decide how much we can spend on this role, but I think we'd need to be bringing in twice as much as we currently are to justify spending $700/month on one person. Unfortunately, if that's how much it's going to cost, I have to vote 👎 for now. |
I forgot to mention... I think we need to avoid the word "hire" for things like this. That could be misunderstood that she would be an employee. I suggest we use the word "sponsor". We would sponsor her to support her contributions as community manager. |
Jason: Could 500€ be ok for you? |
We need to decide on a budget before I can give a number I'm comfortable with. I think this needs to be part of a larger budget discussion. |

As per the last OCWM discuss here. Can we progress the Community Management paid services setting 500$ monthly and 3 months evaluation period? |
Dear TSC,
Recently, I shared my intention of resigning as Community Manager as I cannot keep up with all the commitments. The only pending step to make this official is to hire a new Community Manager. In this case, I would like to ask the TSC to consider @Honyii for this role. During her 6 months CM mentorship, she demonstrated being capable of caring about the community and plan and manage community programs.
As we voted here #23 , I proceed with this proposal for trying 3 months with her, and then, re-evaluate. I will continue supporting her as a mentor to make sure the handoff process is successful.
The approach for this will be, her submitting a monthly invoice to Open Collective with the cost of her services. As per my conversation, 700$-800$ are amounts she is open to accept.

If we agree on this, we can proceed with a formal discussion with @Honyii to start as soon as possible.
