- Start with "Turmoil" for the 2600, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKrPbVaZhWw a sort of 2D Tempest, but add way more stuff flying around. Give them a health meter (instead of "dead in one shot") so they don't die straight away?
- Zombie Mall
- Center Screen Shooter
- Paint Me A Monster
Dan's thoughts: The pitfall here is being too punishing, in the sense of being killed by something that you didn't see and had no way of seeing. I like the idea of doing light/dark with GLSL. Colour/paint might work also, but sounds harder.
Larry's reply: That is in a nutshell the problem with the theme "I never saw it coming", or at least the interpretation of the theme to mean "monsters attack / kill you and you didn't see them in advance". Yes it's frustrating, but it's also the theme. I agree that it sucks for the player, and it's kind of souring me on the theme (I may re-vote and demote it), but I don't know what else to do with that theme.

- Stuntman Game
- Bullet Hell
- Escort Game
- You are doing something that will kill you in a set amount of time, e.g. Spock fixing the warp engines at the end of "Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan". So, timed level, task to complete before time runs out.
- Bonus point: the thing you're doing is silly and or pointless, e.g. fixing Madonna's wigs in their irradiated storage bunker (storing them this way keeps them germ- and insect-free)
- Volcano Caldera Rescue Team - parachute into a volcano to save the research team before the eruption
- Maybe they could do other environments too? Rescue people...
- ... from the collapsing underwater habitat!
- ... caught in a jungle stampede!
- ... trapped in a burning fireworks factory!
- ... cowering on a minefield during an earthquake!
- ... miniaturized and injected into the President!
- Maybe they could do other environments too? Rescue people...
- Meteorite Windfall
- Once every sixty years, the Farley meteor storm blazes through the sky and rains meteorites on your mesa! The meteorites are filled with precious metals and even gemstones. The only problem--they skip and bounce off, and you only own the mesa, not the land around it. So you can only keep the meteorites you can catch! Keep your custom-designed meteorite catchers pointed at the sky, and don't get pasted by the ones you don't catch!
- Gameplay: you control a little guy who runs around on some platforms. The meteor catchers are like parabolic dishes you can reorient and/or relocate. If they don't catch a meteorite dead on, the meteorite might damage the catcher. If a meteorite lands on you it flattens you!
- You don't have five "lives"--you come from a big family, so it's five of the brothers who have to land the catch. (Extra lives are delivered in the form of squalling babies, a la Super Mario 2: Yoshi's Island.)
