Missed column 'payment_method' of table 'sales_flat_quote_address'

During onepage checkout, The Magento\Checkout\Model\Type\Onepage->getQuote()->getShippingAddress()->setPaymentMethod() is called when complete the payment method selection and go to next step. But there is not a 'payment_method' column in table 'sales_flat_quote_address'. So it doesn't work.

Could you please provide the use case where the mentioned by you issue would arise? Also, what are the consequences of the issue noted by you?

Actually no any place to throw exception about it. I just saw setPaymentMethod() in somewhere but nothing happened later. So I think that either save it into database or eliminate it from php codes.
