Cannot debug functions locally

Mac OS 15.7.1, intel chip.
VSCode 1.105.1 (Universal)
Azure functions extension 1.19.2
Azure func core tools 4.3.0

I can run func host start without any issue.
When debugging, I get Could not find the task 'func: host start'..
I can work around this by changing the .vscode/task.json task to:

			"type": "shell",
			"label": "func: host start",
			"command": "func host start",
			"problemMatcher": "$func-python-watch",
			"isBackground": true,
			"dependsOn": "pip install (functions)"

This runs the pip install and func host start without issue.
But I do get a:

and finally connect ECONNREFUSED 127.0.0.1:9091

I guess I a not supposed to replace type func by shell in the first place, but I (and my chat bots) cannot get type: func to work...
Any ideas?

What kind of issues do you run into when you change the type to func? Our extension is specifically looking for that type of task, so it is probably causing some issues with the debugger attaching.

EDIT: Sorry, I re-read the issue and see that you were originally getting the Could not find the task 'func: host start'. error. Is it consistently happening? I've seen this error go away sometimes-- it seems to be something odd with VS Code not recognizing the task existing.

It shouldn't be an issue, but can you verify that the functions extension is activated before you try debugging?

Thank you @nturinski for having replied to my issue.
In the meantime, I have rebooted my laptop multiple times and helped two other colleagues to do the identical setup on their side and it worked without any issue.
Unfortunately, I am still stuck.
I can use print debugging by simply running func start, but being able to set breakpoints would be far better :-/
Can I somehow force VSCode to 're-build' all it's supported types?

I see that ~/.vscode/extensions/ms-azuretools.vscode-azurefunctions-1.19.2/package.json seems to have the part which defines the func type as well as the problem matchers...

In the task outputs, I can also see that func seems to be activated as a task provider, but:

The task will be ignored.

So this is why I am getting Could not find the task 'func: host start'. It is being ignored. The question now is why is it being ignored and how do I prevent this from happening?
