Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Being able to track results over time can be useful in supporting the t1d management. While the most relevant data can already be tracked (CGM distribution, manual BG checks, insulin, carbs etc), the "old" gold standard for treatment outcomes, namely HbA1c results can not be stored in a structured way in NS, and hence not used for analysis.
I believe people like to track their A1c results over time, so I would request to add storage and analysis reports for this parameter.
Describe the solution you'd like
Storage of HbA1c, possibly in a new collection, or in treatments
Entry of A1c through the Careportal
Potentially useful reports:
HbA1c plots over time (scatterplot with trend analysis, or similar?)
Correlations between measured and estimated A1c (reveals personal bias in lab tests)
Correlations betwen TIR / TITR etc and A1c over relevant timeframes to the lab test (90 days average, or some weighted averages of short and longer timeframes)
Describe alternatives you've considered
Current alternatives are manually tracking A1c results in spreadsheets etc. Which is less convenient than entering into NS and getting reports generated
Thanks for raising this. I think this is a useful feature request and I’d like to keep it open.
Nightscout already has estimated A1c-style values in some reports, but that is not the same as being able to store measured lab HbA1c results in a structured way and review them over time.
My preferred direction would be:
add a CarePortal entry type for measured HbA1c
store the result as structured data, probably as a treatment event rather than a new collection
support the common units clearly, such as DCCT % and ideally IFCC mmol/mol
add a Nightscout report that plots measured HbA1c values over time
later, consider comparing measured HbA1c with CGM-derived estimates over a relevant preceding period
I’m +1 on this feature. I may come back to help with implementation, but for now I think this should stay open as a valid enhancement request.
