Out of curiosity, which filesystems? Are you interested in various flavours of UFS/FFS?

I was thinking there might even be value in porting anylinuxfs to linux exactly because of this.

Anyway, while I haven't tried it, @slp, the author of libkrun, mentioned he tested with both FreeBSD and smolBSD. So it definitely boots.

Yes, mainly reliable native FFSv1 and v2, but also anything else the NetBSD kernel can read and write, to broaden the list of filesystems supported here -- iff it fits well enough into your design goals to do so.

Yes, well. I'm not a *BSD expert but I would think Linux already covers the most mainstream filesystems. So I couldn't think of anything else than those native filesystems used for BSD system drives.

Any broadening of support at this point is kind of niche. That's not to say I couldn't support NetBSD. It's mostly about how I bootstrap a VM image (which should be handled by the smolBSD project already) and whether it supports all the paravirtualized drivers I rely on. That's mostly virtio-blk for storage and virtio-net for host <-> guest communication.

So, I will leave this open as a potential improvement. Although I wouldn't say the end goal is to support all Unix-like guests we could think of.

Another roadblock might be Rust cross-compilation support for increasingly exotic target triples. I already had issues with arm64 FreeBSD toolchain.
