Restore API doctest coverage without SDK dependencies #3786
That PR fixes reduced-feature testing by disabling SDK defaults on the opentelemetry dev-dependency. As a practical tradeoff, it marks three SDK-dependent examples as ignore:
LoggerProvider::logger_with_scope
MeterProvider::meter_with_scope
TextMapCompositePropagator
Let’s explore making these API examples independent of the SDK so we can restore doctest coverage without enabling extra features through feature unification. Keep the examples useful, verify them with the relevant feature combinations, and remove the SDK dev-dependency if it is no longer needed.
I looked into this a bit and tried a few approaches locally. Looks like we can use the existing no-op providers for the logger and meter examples.
For the composite propagator, using two no-op propagators doesn't really demonstrate much, so I tried a small custom one that actually injects headers, which seems to work.
