Repository files navigation

This project allows you to find all the open source contributions made by a set of github users.

How to run this project

Requirements

  • make sure to install pixi

Run the scripts

Running the scripts will populate a local file called prs.json which will contain data about contributions made by team members.

There are two steps required to see what contributions a team has been up to.

1. populate a team.txt file.

This can be done manually by writing out a list of all the github user names you want to check. For example:

$ echo "soapy1" > team.txt

Or, to get all the OpenTeams engineering team run the pixi task:

$ pixi run find-my-team

2. collect prs.

Use the output from the previous step to collect important information about all the PRs those users have made in the past 30 days. Run the pixi task

$ pixi run collect-prs

This will output a summary of PRs by all the users, including information on how many security and cve related contributions they have made. This will also output the raw data to a file prs.json.

Note, you may run into rate limits with the github api. In order to resolve this issue, make a new github token (with only access to public repos). And call the script as such:

$ GITHUB_TOKEN=$GITHUB_TOKEN pixi run collect-prs

This uses zero-shot classification to determine if a pr is a security or cve related fix based on the pr title and description.

Upload to firestore

To upload the pr data to a firestore db:

gcloud auth application-default login
FIREBASE_DATABASE_ID=whatsup FIREBASE_PROJECT_ID=your-project-id GITHUB_TOKEN=$GITHUB_TOKEN pixi run collect-prs --upload

Run the frontend

Once you have run the scripts to create a prs.json, you can also view the data in a more friendly, web-based way.

To use local data

$ cd whats-up
$ REACT_APP_USE_LOCAL_DATA=true pixi run -e frontend npm start

To use data from firestore

$ cd whats-up

$ REACT_APP_FIREBASE_API_KEY=<api key> REACT_APP_FIREBASE_AUTH_DOMAIN=<auth domain> REACT_APP_FIREBASE_PROJECT_ID=<project id> REACT_APP_FIREBASE_DATABASE_ID=<databse id> pixi run -e frontend npm start
