seed ssh key from .pub key?

On several systems where I do not have inbound ssh enabled, I do not have an authorized_keys files. Is it possible to instead use the id_xxx.pub instead to seed this rather than having the user creating a temporary set of allowed keys?

I also ran into this issue while provisioning my physical Helios box — it acquired the SSH keys of every machine that can access my desktop computer, but not of my desktop itself. In my opinion it would be worth an option to specify additional keys, or a little bit of user documentation about where the keys are being slurped from, so that someone (like me) with a nonconforming setup knows to send them over manually. I'll make a PR for docs to this effect.
