i915 DRM error with Thunderbolt dock and 5.11 kernel

Lenovo P53s connected to Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock. After kernel upgrade to 5.11 the external monitors no longer function and the below error is repeated as long as the dock is connected.
kernel: [ 299.813141] i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* Link Training Unsuccessful
This happens on both 5.11-7612 and 5.11-7614. I found mention of the same issue in the RedHat bugtracker for the 5.11 kernel if that helps.
