Turns out we need to do our jsdoc comments in a very specific format for it to parse!
This makes a lot of those changes and starts creating a contributor doc to list these in. We can move the doc somewhere permanent later, it just needs to be somewhere for now to capture this "folk knowledge" that we pick up in the doc writing process.
