PyPI UI Refresh: Feedback & Discussion

As part of #19950 we are staging UI changes to TestPyPI, before deploying to production.

Please use this issue thread to share your feedback. Whether you love the changes or think there’s room for improvement, we want to hear from you.

I have one minor suggestion: on the Release History page, it would be really nice if you could filter out pre-release versions (which I'd argue should be the default).

Honestly love this new, one small point from me. But all together a massive upgrade in UX, great work!

sidebar-section__content--pypi grabs a lot of attention, I would drop the background on this as in my opinion it's not that important to see first, the information would still be clear without the background color that grabs attention.

Would like that for easier on eyes. And would expect it in modernisation (similar to many other websites do/did).

The tab label “{count} files” (usually “2 files”) confused me somewhat. I.e. is that the count of the manifest lines of the payload (like bottle is a single-file module)?

Of course it isn’t, it’s the number of options to download the package (often source and wheel, each being archives comprising many files). The confusion is also not prevented by the icon, which is generic file or document icon, and was download icon before.

To me “{count} downloads” would be clearer.

Hi @Dutcho - thanks for your feedback. No darkmode for this update, as it is out of scope, and we don't have capacity for maintaining two modes. See #20247. There is, however, a user style available here: https://gitlab.com/vitaly-zdanevich-styles/pypi

Bulk deletion of releases would be a very useful addition for TestPyPI, where projects often publish numerous temporary releases while testing packaging and release automation.

During development, it's common to upload many test versions before publishing to PyPI. Currently, deleting these releases one by one is tedious and time-consuming when a project accumulates hundreds of test releases.

It would be great if the TestPyPI release management page supported:

• Multi-select checkboxes for releases.
• A Delete selected bulk action.
• A confirmation dialog showing the number of releases that will be permanently deleted.
• Optional filters (e.g., pre-releases only, versions matching a pattern, or older than N days) to make cleanup easier and safer.

Since this feature is intended for TestPyPI, where packages are temporary and frequently discarded, it would greatly improve the developer experience without affecting production PyPI workflows. It would reduce hundreds of repetitive clicks to a single bulk operation and make it much easier to keep TestPyPI projects clean while iterating on release pipelines.

Thanks for your feedback @Himanshu-jn52 - this is out of scope for this work. Please see #19469 for bulk deletion - I believe there is also an open PR which you may be able to collaborate on.

I like the new look for quarantined packages, it screams the right message from the very first look :) and that the pypi-sourced data are marked neutral, without suggesting they indicate being safe/verified, but just where they come from!

I don't like that the download and release history tabs now hide the sidebar, which always remained visible in the old UI. I frequently referred to the sidebar while on those tabs in the past.
