Not as far as I know, but we are using linux api / kernel interface to sd card that could have changed. If ubuntu version is the only thing in your setup that has changed, it's worth trying an older version. It is possible to change the cid multiple times.

I just used the code (first time) on Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS and it worked on a Samsung EVO 32GB (bought a few years ago from Amazon - don't remember the dealer) that I used for a digital camera which I don't use so often any more. In my case this was needed for my wife's Nissan Versa GPS micro SD started to crash and Nissan dealer did not what to replace it without charging me a new system (crazy!!!), so I made my own backup. Worked perfect.

I have the exact same issue. The card used to work before, used it for putting audi 2012 navigation, was thinking about updating to 2021. But I can't. I've tried different versions of ubuntu. Even the Ubuntu 14 the old version, but still no success. I tried changing the ID on 2 different laptops. I always get changing CID was a success, but when I reconnect I get the old CID. The CID shown by linux is not correct as well. I used 2 different laptops, they both give different CID. I checked /dev/blocks, and on both laptops the Samsung SD card is mmcblk0.

My response can be disregarded, I was focussing on the last digits, last digits don't matter and are just the checksum. Changing CID still works.

Checksum is often displayed incorrectly as 00. So either you think you need to set it as 00, but it gets replaced with the correct value, or you try to set the proper value and then when you display it it appears to be 00. Both cases it looks like something has gone wrong, but it's really just a display issue.
