Manually restart node process from shell

I have a database connection that tends to hang up because of the frequency of nodemon restarts of my application. This crashes the server app and nodemon will not restart it unless I change a file. It would be awesome if I could just restart the app from the shell, with, say, a keypress into nodemon's stdin. Does this seem feasible?

I've got a working version offline, but it's not quite 100% perfect.

Basically you can trigger a manual restart of the child node process using ctrl-z - however and this is where I need input from other people, this will override the browser's native send to background command.

Is this acceptable - please comment below.

Note that I would much rather capture ctrl-r instead, but I'm having to hook a signal rather than the key press.

The technical reason for this is that to listen for a keypress requires changing process.stdin to use setRawMode(true) which lets me read a character at a time, but this then passes on the stdin reading method to the child process (i.e. your node script) which would cause unexpected behaviour.

That doesn't sound ideal. Would it be possible to have a quick command typed into the repl instead, such as rs?

@steveworkman yep, that's definitely possible (and I agree, taking over the SIGTSTP signal - ^Z is not ideal).

I was going to put it to a vote, but actually I think rs is better because I know I'll have cross platform support too.

Anyone wants to comment, I'm all ears, otherwise expect this to land either tonight or this week.

I've written a small bash script (along with some Sublime Text 2 files) that uses this feature to run grunt server with nodemon, either through Terminal or Sublime Text 2 console with keyboard shortcuts. Should be pretty useful for all us gruntheads out there. I'm also gonna be writing up how to configure grunt to run a custom Express server when issuing a grunt server command soon. Here's the repo for anyone who's interested.
