Fiat historical rates don't automatically update for new transactions.

I have "Download historical rates" checked:

But new transactions say that historical "USD Acquisition price" and "USD Capital gains" are unavailable. If I go into the preferences and switch to another source, then Electrum updates the historical rates.

Shouldn't the historical rates be updated every time a new transaction comes in?

Historical data is only downloaded if the last successful download for that given (exchange_name, currency) pair is older than 24 hours.

It is not surprising that if you switch to another source, missing rates might get filled in, as the sources are independent.
Are you saying that by switching to another source (exchange_name), and then back, previously missing rates get filled in, in the gui?

Yes, that's exactly what happens.

Is this a temporary thing that occurs right after sending/receiving (which?) a new transaction? Does it "fix" itself if you restart the program? What if you press "F5"?

It occurs after sending a new transaction.

"USD Capital Gains" and "USD Acquisition Price" are correctly blank for incoming transactions.

I think so.

When I change the source to BitStamp, CoinCap, or CoinDesk, the "USD Value" and "USD Capital Gains" columns both say "No data" for every transaction (F5 doesn't update), but the "USD Acquisition Price" has "No data" for some of the columns; it's sopradic. The columns are complete only with BitFinex and CoinGecko (except when new transactions come in).
