The provided solution only works for S3Event and not for other events like LambdaEvents
Is it possible to have a more generic solution?

Can you be more specific. A generic solution may not be possible as there are specifics to each event, so which particular event you are asking about?

ScheduledEvent to be more particular

It turned out that the issue was with ObjectMapper's inability to convert Joda time, so had to add a module.
