[Issue]: Default Dashboard does not work since 2025.12.0

What I am doing

After the latest update, I am reconfiguring my browser and selecting a default dashboard for this ID; however, when opening Home Assistant, it still opens to the dashboard configured at the user level.

Same for me on my Shelly Walldisplay since updating to HA 2026.2 or the last version of browser_mod. I can set the path by an action but after restart, the default dashboard does not load. Likewise, the header does show even if disabled for the browser and user. When resetting the browser and user setting (to the same as before, so disable and again enable to hide header) it works immediately but after a restart, it this does not work again...

The problem appears to be related to the new functionality which allows the user to set a default dashboard and these preferences are stored in .storage\fontend.user_data_ and this overrides anything browser mod is doing on a per user basis.

I use at least three different "browsers" (devices) and each of these have a different dashboard defined in Browser_Mod as the default Dashboard. The user itself is configured to use the "Default System" dashboard.

This has always worked fine but after last night's update the system now enforces the value defined for the user in their settings and ignores what is defined in Browser_mod for that browser completely.

Cleared cache - used an entirely different browser - completely rebooted the HA OS server.
No change - this is a code change breakage unfortunately.

Hi, this is expected since Home Assistant changed the way Default Dashboard works in 2026.12.0. See below documentation update that was done at that time. I will leave this issue pinned so everyone can see.

To confirm, once you set either system or user Dashboard in Home Assistant, that blocks the legacy method that Browser Mod uses for Default Dashboard. The alternate is to use Default action with browser_mod.navigate.

Default dashboard (legacy)

Using this Frontend setting is not recommended. See below for options which are recommended.

1. Global/System ⇒ (Since 2025.12) Set the Home Assistant default system dashboard in Dashboards.
2. Browser/Device ⇒ Use Default action with browser_mod.navigate. This also works with other pages than lovelace dashboards, like e.g. logbook or even history?device_id=f112fd806f2520c76318406f98cd244e&start_date=2022-09-02T16%3A00%3A00.000Z&end_date=2022-09-02T19%3A00%3A00.000Z.
3. User ⇒ (Since 2025.12) Set Home Assistant default user dashboard in user profile.

Set the default dashboard that is shown when you access https://<your home assistant url>/ with nothing after the /.

NOTE: This uses legacy method of storing default dashboard in localStorage. Home Assistant 2025.12 started storing the default dashboard in system/user settings. If the default dashboard is set via Home Assistant at either system or user level, this overrides the legacy method and Browser Mod setting will be ignored.

Alternative method for is Default action. Documentation included below.

Set the default action to be run when Browser is loaded or refreshed. This setting accepts the same action Config as per browser_mod.popup actions. For more information see the examples actions included in Actionable popups. If you are using Browser Mod SERVICES, in most cases you would omit browser_id or user_id so the service runs on the loading Browser.

IMPORTANT: Like actions popups and notifications, this setting DOES NOT support templates.

Tips:

1. Multiple actions can be called by using a list of actions. These are called in parallel, matching actions for popups and notifications.
