Error displaying inter-line formula

When I use $$ $$ to display a inter-line formula, I found \begin{cases} \end{cases} seems to be not supported.
Take this condition for example，it cannot render line breaks correctly

- 均匀分布：记作 $X \sim \mathrm{Uniform}(a, b)$
  $$f(x)=\begin{cases} \dfrac{1}{b-a}, & a \le x \le b \\ 0, & \text{其他} \end{cases}$$

Or I wrote like below, it even did not render it as a formula

- 均匀分布：记作 $X \sim \mathrm{Uniform}(a, b)$
  $$
  f(x) =
  \begin{cases} 
  \dfrac{1}{b-a}, & a \le x \le b \\ 
  0, & \text{其他}
  \end{cases}
  $$

I'm looking forward to have a fix on this problem, or maybe I use the wrong writing style.
